I like Nintendo as much as anyone, but in response to this kind of fanboyish nonsense there's not much else for me to say other than this.
You are full of shit.
It's astonishing how important both quality and quantity of games available for a platform effect how well that platform sells.
Oh, I'm sorry. I meant to say:
It's astonishing how many gamers resolutely refuse to accept how important both quality and quantity of games available for a platform effect how well that platform sells.
Every time I point out the extreme similarity of the WiiU and 3DS' first years, there's always ...
Point three? Really?
What a steep, absurdly arbitrary gradient they're using. Whenever I see a score so pointlessly specific, my mind interprets the number as a big "Not Worth Your Time" sign in flashing neon letters.
Some indy games are a lot of fun and cheap.
Some are dull as hell and/or obscenely overpriced.
Speaking of the former, anyone know if the WiiU is getting Mighty Switch Force 2? Love the first game on my WiiU, but seeing the second in the 3DS eshop is just so tempting.
Exactly.
But it's still a bad thing that we've got paid DLC for boring mechanical cheating instead of free cheat codes for fun cheating these days.
It's more than that.
Digital sales remove not just retail fees, but manufacturing and distribution fees as well, which amount to a good 40% (or more) of the cost of a game.
That's one of the main reasons why developers can afford to do such massive discounts during Steam sales and still turn a profit.
It's worth pointing out that in many cases digital copies of games do see partial discounts. Most PSN games, for example; many 3DS games, etc.
In general, publishers will charge as much as they think they can for games. That's why the average MSRP went to $60 for PC games--a $10 hike that was originally justified by the increased production costs of blu-ray and HD-DVDs was applied to digital PC games on Steam.
Some publishers are good about selling d...
It takes some time and resources, because (for some reason) Nintendo doesn't have a single emulator they use for every game; each individual game gets its own, tailored emulation code.
Which is silly.
And, of course, there's ZERO EXCUSE for delaying VC releases of titles that are on the WiiU VC in Japan and on the Wii VC in NA/EU. The only explanation for the delay of games like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, is that Nintendo doesn't plan on b...
I disagree. I'd say most games aren't worth it this gen, as they've gotten smaller and shorter.
$60 is way too much for the average game these days--the super-linear, heavily scripted, 8-hour game. Especially when you can buy much bigger, longer-lasting, more open titles--like Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, Civilization, Total War, Skyrim, etc.--for the same price.
This is why I buy almost all of the big AAA Western releases on Steam for 75% off...
I'd rather have RDR. Haven't really liked a GTA game since Vice City.
If you haven't already, try Muramasa (Wii/Vita). It's even better.
Jesus Goddamn ****, Koei. I've been putting off playing DW8 for weeks now, waiting for some DLC. Bought two $20 cards just for it. And all you seem to want to sell, ever so slowly, is $3 DLC of some of the absolute worst music in all of gaming history?
Jesus Goddamn ****.
I'm about ready to write 'em some profanity-laced hatemail.
Generally speaking, it's seldom a good idea to buy a console in it's second year on the market--and never during the first year.
So not only do I have zero sympathy for gamers who complain about the lack of games on their Vitas or WiiUs today, I also view them with contempt.
As a consumer, you have a responsibility to research a product BEFORE purchasing it. As a gamer, if you buy a console, you should know which games are available on that platform, ...
@Klescer: I thought it might have been a reference to some esoteric MegaTen character.
That'll teach me to overthink things.
Because ports take work.
Reading the kickstarter page, many of the people working on the game are doing so sans salary, so it makes sense that they'd want to get it finished as soon as possible.
If the game turns a sufficient profit, it's fairly likely that they'd explore porting to other platforms.
What is "Zelous?"
You mean it wasn't blindingly obvious?
I disagree, too, but not for raving fanboy reasons like Dagobert.
At this point, I feel like Square-Enix would be better served revisiting a game with a more unique, compelling underlying game system.
That they never re-purposed Final Fantasy XII's core gameplay mechanics for another title is one of the biggest tragedies in gaming. If they're going to start birthing sequels to older FF games, let them start with Twelve.
I think I can speak for everyone here when I say how much brighter and merrier our world is that we got Final Fantasy XIII instead.
God bless you, Square-Enix. God bless you.
It certainly does. After that E3 Direct, I went and bought an E3 myself. Fantastic line-up for the next few months, across both Nintendo mainstays.
Probably better than any one platform in the same time period in my opinion, now that Wasteland 2 has been delayed.
