Games are good

I agree with you LittleTad.

My point was that both systems had exhaustive lists of games that could potentially satisfy any gamer.

I thought Buzz was a phenomenal party quiz game. I thought Haze was a fun FPS (it impressed me how you could play through the entire game with no interruption or loading screens at all, and it had a pretty good story). I thought Infinite Undiscovery was yet another fantastic RPG from Tri-Ace (and I'm excited for next year's Star Oce...

CViper... please stop trying to act like the 360 had a terrible year.

The fact is, both consoles had great years. I bought more PS3 games this year, because I feel it had a lot of the best games. But when I look at this year, here's what I bought (and this is my opinion, which is just as valid as anybody else's... not counting anything multiplatform):

PS3:
- Hot Shots Golf
- Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
- Haze
- Metal Gear Solid 4

Great list! I approve. Except for Castlevania, maybe. I didn't play it, but I'm sure they could have thought of a worse 7th game.

Agree completely. Really the only thing I found wrong with the teaser was the Kratos character model at the very beginning, and the fact that they only showed really dark, grayish scenarios. I'd like to see some of the more vibrant and colorful stuff that all the God of War games have had in the past. But yeah, I went back and booted up Chains of Olympus on my PSP right after seeing the teaser last night, and Kratos' face doesn't look the same. I feel like they need to get their artists t...

Yeah, I'm surprised they gave the game of the year to a PS3 game. They've been unneccessarily critical of PS3 and its games all year.

On to the actual results: what the hell does "best hardware" mean? If they're talking about actual hardware quality, why wouldn't the PS3 win, considering it's got Blu-Ray and built-in wi-fi, and it's quieter and quite frankly its just a more reliable piece of hardware.

If it's in terms of which system had the best ga...

While the only thing I care about is the single-player, I have to admit that when I get excited when I think about an online arena fighting mode where you can choose your god/character/monster and fight it out tournament style with other players. Kratos vs. Kratos battles online would be just awesome in my opinion. I mean, the mechanics of the games combat are already very fighting-game-esque. What with the combos, the slow/high-powered and quick/low-powered moves, the throwing/grappling mo...

Wow this is really a stretch. It's not even like he found some boxes that display Playstation 3, it's just that not of the boxes say "Only On" in front of the Xbox 360 symbol.

I agree. Either Persona 4, Tales of Vesperia, Fable 2, or Valkyria Chronicles would have been a better choice than Fallout 3.

I put over 200 hours into Oblivion. I was sick of Fallout 3 within 30 hours. It just seemed like more of a chore to play. The world was so lacking in variety in comparison to Oblivion. Everywhere you went looked identical and I just got sick of it before long.

Graphics clearly don't look just like the original.

Also, graphics looked better than (the little we saw of) God of War 3, Killzone 2, and any other game I've seen on a console. Just astonishing animation, modeling, texturing, everything. The trailer impressed the hell out of me.

It had me genuinely intrigued. I was curious what was going on, then when it's revealed more where Nathan is I was just thinking "Damn. That man's in trouble." And I want ...

I agree that a lot of people forget about classics, but they honestly believe that no games newer than the 16-bit era could be considered among the most underrated all-time games?

I just think it should be two separate buttons. I'd rather not hold a button to get the thread. But I also don't want to hit the button twice in order to get a regular jump off. Two buttons would do me right.

No, it's "Cumulative Production Shipped." The keyword there is shipped.

http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

That 5.5 million number is confirmed to be shipped to retailers, not just manufactured. Really think for a second... according to your theory that there were 3.6 shipped to retail out of 5.5 million manufactured, that would mean that they made 2 million of...

Incorrect, Mint Royale.

That is the official Sony number for consoles sold, not shipped to retailers. There is another section of their website that details "Cumulative Production Shipments of Hardware."

http://www.scei.co.jp/corpo...

It isn't up to date, which is why I didn't use those numbers. But as you can see, their financials state that 5.5 million wer...

I agree that LittleBigPlanet and Gears of War 2 were both disappointingly broken in the online department. But Resistance 2 was certainly not. It works perfectly and has since day 1. I've never experienced any lag in that game, surprisingly. Not one match has ever had one instant of lag. I've never had a long wait to connect to a match, either.

The only thing that's wonky with Resistance 2 is that sometimes the matchmaking makes uneven teams. But that's not that big of a ...

Don't give us that VGchartz crap. You know they can't be trusted and yet you not only use them as a source, but you tell us that we can't call foul about that source? Well, I call your bluff.

According to VGchartz, the PS3 sold 7.6 million in 2007.

Everyone knows that they inflate the 360's numbers and deflate the PS3's numbers.

According to Sony themselves and their financial reports, they sold 8.85 million PS3's in 2007 (Q4 2006 through Q3 2007...

It's one of the best games of the year. Easily the best strategy game of the year.

I'd say that it breaks the top 5 best in each of the following categories this year:

Graphics
Art Direction
Music
Voice Acting
Story
Strategy Games
Role Playing Games
Playstation 3 Games

Nothing short of an astonishingly well-executed computer game. Just brilliant all-around. The scenarios represent strategy at its ...

Yeah, seriously. "a mediocre game library."

Give me a frickin' break.

Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 1/2, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Eye of Judgment, Warhawk, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Grand Theft Auto 4, Call of Duty: Modern Combat/World at War, Rock Band 1/2, Guitar Hero 3/World Tour, and on and on and on.

The library isn't mediocre. ...

I thought it was 36? Or somewhere in the low to mid 30's.

The credits to the game has the name and a picture of every single person who worked on the game, and it's definitely more than 12, but definitely less than 40. I think it's 36, but don't know for sure.

Either way, yeah, it was a very small team.

Both games look amazing. Can't wait to have them in my PS3.

And for Final Fantasy XIII, "Coming 2009 For Playstation 3" is all it says. So I guess they're serious about there not being an Xbox 360 version in Japan. That's so weird. Does it make any sense to anybody that they're going to be porting this game to the 360, guaranteed on multiple discs, and they're not even going to release it in Japan? If they're doing all that porting work and not releasing it in Ja...
