Dissidia's first week sales = 489,000
Second week sales were 176,000. That's a drop of 313,000, or 64%.
Same percentage drop as White Knight, from first to second week. Was there an article made to point that out? No, of course not. Because it's only news when PS3 games have sales decline. Even though every game has a sales decline after the debut week. Gah.
I think it actually sold more like 205,000 in the 3 days that it was available during this period (Dec. 25-28) ... that's still a ton, but not 270-some. It literally missed the top 10 by less than 1,000 units, and was only on the shelves for 3 days, Christmas and the couple of days thereafter. Very nice performance for it, but would have been really something if it'd showed up on this list. As it stands, I believe it would be at 11, but since the list only goes to 10...
Their reasoning is most certainly NOT lack of demand. Remember the HD-DVD player Microsoft made and told their consumers that they wanted? Well, HD-DVD never had a fraction of the consumer demand that Blu-Ray currently has, not even at its peak popularity. Think about that a moment. According to MS, when they were peddling an HD-DVD player, their consumers wanted it... but now that Blu-Ray is the de facto HD disc format, and it's got much more demand from the general consuming public than...
Low consumer demand for Blu-Ray? Then why did Microsoft make an add-on for HD-DVD, which never had a fraction of the demand that Blu-Ray currently has...
What kind of a person tries to downplay a million-selling new IP's performance at retail? Bah humbug, this game is a hit, plain and simple.
Resistance 2 is good for the campaign and the co-op, I'd recommend getting it and checking it out between now and the end of february.
It won't. LittleBigPlanet came with a plethora of levels and content created by the creators, which served to provide fun and value to those who bought the game, as well as inspire them with a glimpse at what you can achieve with the creation tools. Kodu lacks the charm of LittleBigPlanet (Sackboy, Stephen Fry, and the graphical style), for one. For another, it's going to lack the inspiring and fun levels of the creators. It won't be nearly as good as LittleBigPlanet for those reasons.
We're talking about videogames. Windows 7 isn't a new game, or a new way of playing games.
Eye of Judgment is so cool. Any collectible card game player from the past or present should check it out. It's a great game with a great set of rules and great cards, and the camera integration is absolutely brilliant. Watching your cards come to life is very cool, and the ability to play online without needing to actually find someone in real life to play against is the icing on the cake.
@ Jaysquared: "It had great reviews and the week delay did not hurt it."
What makes you say the week delay did not hurt it? You've got no evidence to that effect. The game had a momentum going and the delay was controversial and definitely stopped much of that momentum. It certainly didn't help and there's a good chance it really hurt. The game was going to come out a week before a lot of other big-name releases, then it got delayed, which killed its momentum and p...
My what? Yellow fanfreaks? I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. I own a PS3, a gaming PC, a 360, a Wii, a DS, a PSP... I call it like I see it, and I see it like this: the PS3 has the most games I enjoy playing, and I never bought one for movie watching. Blu-Rays are much higher quality than any other method of movie watching I've ever seen. However, I don't care all that much about movies, but I do enjoy them sometimes. Netflix offers a good selection of streaming movies ...
Resistance 2, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, and LittleBigPlanet were all highly accomplished pieces of game development, providing fun, fun, fun to me and many.
I wholeheartedly agree. 3 years ago I couldn't have been more hyped about Spore. By the time it came out I had no care left. I still haven't even tried it out yet.
The reason they keep so many games secret is because they don't have to blow their wad all at once. They've already announced 10 to 15 huge exclusives for 2009 and maybe some in early 2010. That's a lot of games, more than 2 big games per season. They have room to keep tight-lipped on some things. You don't want everybody to get too excited for stuff that's coming after these first 10-15 games. You want them to keep their sights on a few titles, get them really excited for them, and then...
Kind of unrelated, but, I think it's funny so many 360 fanboys criticized PS3 fanboys saying the PS3 is only good for watching movies. Then Xbox Live got NetFlix compatibility, and it's suddenly like movie support is a huge and awesome factor for a console. Well, I agree that movie support is a huge and awesome factor for a console. For me, the irony is that I have to this day only watched 2 blu-ray movies on my PS3 (Wanted, very recently (got it for Christmas), and Kung Fu Panda) ... I we...
Get real... you sold your PS3 and NOW is the time that you claim happiness at that decision? You seen the PS3 line-up for next year? How could you have owned a PS3 and sold it, and determine, looking at next year's games, that you're happy with that decision? I call bull.
Was the list in order? If so, I hadn't realized that somehow.
It was a good article except the few slight jabs about the PS3 having difficulty in 2008. I believe that is an egregious misconception. The PS3 had an amazing line-up of games in 2008, and it did very well at retail, too, despite the fact that so much of the media would have you believe they're underperforming. I believe they're performing admirably, given the price of their product in these tough economic times. Unrealistic notions of what quantities the PS3 *should* be selling based on ...
@ SaberEdge, I didn't say it does EVERYTHING as well, I said "does its job just as well as any premium service that competes against it."
Its Job. Meaning, allowing me to play games online against and with other players. I've got Xbox Live (been a member since the service started on the first Xbox console), and I've yet to see how it offers a better basic ability to play games over the internet than the PS3. The PS3 offers me the ability to play my games on an almost...
@Mesh:
If you actually owned a Playstation, you'd be able to download the latest episode of Qore, which contains new HD footage of Killzone 2 in action and an interview with Mr. Ter Heige, the lead producer on the game. He says that all of the reactions to bullets and death animations are dependent on the gun your using, where you shoot them, and how far away you are, and that you'll basically never see the same reaction twice. So, yeah, the death animations aren't just pre-r...
