WONDER if Killzone was a fake? In case you missed the last year in gaming news:

-Sony hadn't yet produced the RSX graphics chip when Killzone demoed. It didn't exist. They had absolutely no idea what sort of performance it might actually achieve. Yet the Killzone demo was called "realtime" and was "running on real hardware".... Sony still hasn't released full specs for RSX (or did I miss something?).

-The devs first said the vid was "real...

People keep not reading the whole article.

Sony said:
"ultimately, we're trying to protect consumers from being sold hardware that does not conform to strict EU or UK consumer safety standards"

Lik-Sang notes:
"PSP consoles shipped from Lik-Sang contained genuine Sony 100V-240V AC Adapters that carry CE and other safety marks and are compatible world wide. All PSP consoles were in conformity with all EU and UK consumer safety regulat...

Ummm... web browsing could be fine on SDTV if cone right. Anyone have satellite with a Guide or a TV with the Guide channell? Ummm yeah, it works.

Now for the incessant b***ing of people who don't want to pay for services, and the people slamming Xbox Live for charging a membership fee. Drumroll, please....

Raw number from the field: My local Gamestops are reporting how badly this is going to bomb in numbers. These numbers should hold true for a lot of areas...

-Gamestop I used to work at got 18 Xbox 360s at launch (I was working the launch, in fact). That same Gamestop reserved 8 PS3s.
-A larger Gamestop in the area (where my girlfriend works) had about 30 360s at launch. They pre-ordered 16 PS3s.

Both stores are basically demanding armed guards for the PS3 ...

The full story is that Microsoft, after seeing this, polled ALL of its major developers and asked a simple question: If it came down to it on the final system, which would you rather see double the RAM (to 512), or a built-in hard drive? The developers unanimously chose the RAM, and that's why 360 doesn't have a built-in hard drive.

Marketing research showed most gamers preferred a cheaper core system with a removable hard drive, and the devs agreed they'd trade the drive for ...

I also got a poster, a pin, a dogtag, and two pieces of downloadable content for my trouble. The video kinda sucked, but free stuff is free stuff.

What the hell? When did Microsoft become responsible for how one developer decided to price its game? I agree the pricing sucks, but it was determined by the developer- not Microsoft. And of course Microsoft's going to defend the developer's decisions- do you think Sony's going to openly critize Square for its decision to support 360? They might make jabs about 360 not getting better support, but they're not going to take a verbal dump on a developer. Er, I hope not anyway.

Thi...

-A year ago: "Xbox 360 couldn't ever possibly run Fight Night Round 3!"

Uhh... you mean like with the Vision Cam on Xbox Live... right now? Yeah, that's totally not something 360 fans would ever want to try at all. Right now. On Xbox Live. As we speak.

Wow, I can't believe you managed to sneak some anti-Sony bits in here. Anyway... yes, Sony has tons of great IPs that could go to the movie screen. Games like Final Fantasy just beg to be made into movies!

Oops... wait....

Just some notes...

"They shouldn't sell their IP scripting rights to anyone"
-They didn't. Bungie and Microsoft retain all creative control. That's one of the points that Fox and universal didn't like.

"Think of all those CG Flood racing through hallways and stuff"
-As opposed to the CG ones in Halo? Heh. But seriously WETA's working on this. Think about the nastiest Orcs from Lord of the Rings like the one-eyed captain guy in Re...

I have no idea why this is still the top news item unless the approval people aren't working the weekend.

1) Microsoft IS banking this movie pretty much alone. They plan on massive success, and any studio not willing to take the plunge isn't going to stay on as a partner. Yeah, they're profit-hungry bastards too. This is true for every major movie studio in the world.

2) Even if Microsoft wasn't ready to bankroll this, Peter Jackson and WETA are ALSO fully behind...

Newsflash: BluRay to become the primary drive the the Phantom game console! Prepare for the true release of next-gen with Phantom! Due out sometime last year.

Sony funds movies, and their company's net profit per year is about a quarter of Microsoft's- if that, given new forecasts from Sony execs.

So how exactly can Microsoft not fund this? Not to mention Peter Jackson and WETA are already invested... WETA alone makes enough bank to finance this movie without issue, I'm sure.

Not to mention there's no actual online gameplay service- the devs have to go to a third-party system like Gamespy or XFire to actually make everything happen (apart from the gamercard system and online store- which is all that Sony actually supplies).

The gameplay is free because Sony basically isn't actually providing anything to make it happen. It's all up to the third-party support and devs.

Maybe Sony will allow gift cards, but yes, it's all about pre-pay. Just like cell phones, lots of people don't actually like contract or online payment. They really do prefer loading up cards with credit to get things online. Points was Microsoft's way of making this payment system make sense.

Think of cell phone minutes- maybe you pay $60 for 200 "minutes". But those aren't strictly "minutes", because Extended Network or Roaming calls might cost extra. So y...

Not to mention, 360's HD-DVD units will be shipping with King Kong (hence the joke in the article). Even on a standard TV, Kong crushes Ricky Bobby in terms of "next-gen".

I'd personally rather watch Talledega Nights as I hated Kong, but when we're talking about a next-gen showpiece, this is an absolutely baffling title to include.

Lumines for PSP on Amazon.com costs $20. And it comes with all features (short of the Madonna music video, I guess)

The base- and incomplete- game for XBLA costs $15 in startup costs. Adding in the Advanced mode (still not completing the game) pushes the price to 1800 points or $22.50, so we're already overbudget.

If the other add-on packs all cost 600 points as well, then the XBLA version would eventually cost up to $45.

So the game costs 2.5x as ...

Ummm... did she say replacing for free? Or did she just say replacing? Check your BS detectors, people.

And even if it was free, Sony's again looking at footing a big bill. Massive battery recalls are still starting up seemingly every week, a hugely expensive console sold at a big loss is about to launch, profit forecasts for the next year have already been announced 38% lower than expected (see yesterday's news)....

This makes a massive "WTF" factor. S...
