Note that employees didn't "get" pre-orders by the way. If they happened to be working, they couldn't even step across the counter and get one, because you're not supposed to make purchases while you're on shift. A few employees I know had to call in friends to come reserve their units for them.

And no Gamestop knows how many pre-orders they're getting. They fully expect to get screwed. I can give you raw numbers from my area, though:

RR5- One of the biggest titles in PS2's early years.
RR7- One of the most highly anticipated games for PS3.

Compared to:
RR6- One of the worst games available for 360.

Still wondering how that happened.

If this count is % of owners who bought a game at time of purchase, that would be a different story. Can anyone confirm that is, in fact, how they counted?

Microsoft's 2.5 count was their "attach rate" of games/console over the launch window, multiple games counted.

Edit: Sorry, MS's multi-unit attach rate was more like (4?) games/console. The 2.5 was accessories.

You mean the 360's DVD dive, yes? And even then, the old one? The 360 system hasn't been touched yet, the newer drives were secured against these mods, and Microsoft is working to brick affected units via Xbox Live.

PS3 was running arbitrary operating systems within 24 hours.

Slight difference.

Classic computer points:
-Virtaully no one in the home market runs Linux. They pretty much ALL run Windows.
-Most of these people still don't even run virus scans, assuming they even know what a "virus scan" is.
-The average Linux user is tech-literate, and if you tried to give them a virus, a high percent of them could probably trace the attack back to you and take appropriate action on their end. And legally considering all the professionals.

Didn't 360 sell like 2.5 games per console? THAT's a telling number.

Welcome to the next gen!
Assuming you live two gens ago.
heh.

Seriously, would it have killed them to include this out of the box? The system HAS a drive- why not a DVD drive?

PS1 and PS2 were utterly un-hackable compared to the Xbox. Xbox was running Linux and SNES emulators BEFORE launch. Heh.

But Sony fans will undoubtedly say they're willing to wait for great games.

One year ago: "360 sucks! Who cares if those games are coming out soon- the system doesn't have anything for launch!"

Heh. In all fairness, I think most rational people are willing to say that the first 6 months of owning a console generally mean a small selection of good titles. If the big games were coming out any later than that, then it might be a problem.

Nice catch. Fishy statement, indeed.

Not to mention, Yu Suzuki has made clear his intentions for the series for several years at this point.

Pointless, stupid, and poorly written.
It's the average internet petition!

If you've ever quit a job for a game, you're officially a world-class loser.

If you've ever screwed over your engagement for a game, you're an all-time world-class loser.

If you're one of the guys in this video, you've just been elected the King of All Loser, and for the next generation of videogame, you can live with knowing you'll be held up as the ultimate stereotype of a Sony fan.

Thanks, guys, for giving all fanboys in the world something to m...

From a forum topic:
"This isn't a game, it's an addiction."

If you were on the fence, do go pick it up and give it a spin. It's an incredible little title.

And to tie up all parts of the argument, just look at the "biggest" titles on both systems. PS3 has Resistance, 360 has Gears of War. Both are shooters running in native 720p at about the same framerates. Both have mind-blowing graphics. Both have incredible multiplayer. Etc, etc.

Gotta toss it in: So does 360. And HDMI cables will probably be out before year's end. And since the PS3 isn't shipping with HDMI cables either, that means both boxes have the exact same 1080p capability out of the box.

I don't want next-gen DVD. At all. I'm fine with my standard TV, I'm fine with my DVDs. Yeah, I realize I'll eventually have to get an HDTV. But not today.

Who cares about the enhanced picture quality? I'd have to buy an HDTV and a player, easily costing me an ADDITIONAL $600+, even with the "cheap" option of already owning a 360.

Who cares about the format wars? One side or the other will wind up having a large collection of frisbees as its rival domin...

Look who hasn't played Gears of War. Heh.
Nothing on PS3 looks any better than anything 360 could do. The two systems will be going very directly head-to-head.

See also: HD-DVD video and audio quality are currently almost always better than their BluRay counterparts, even on the same title.

Very head-to-head.

How long until people crack BluRay content protection and turn their PS3s into pirating stations?
