"Microsoft pushing RPGs and Sony leading an online charge."
Sums up GDC so far nicely. And how odd it is. Microsoft walking away from a show taking away the RPG crown while Sony hopes to astound with new online services? Has the development community gone back in time a generation and swapped places?
Good to see each company rounding out though- MS finally fills in a weak aspect of the game libray, Sony fills in services.
Now if only Wii ...
IMHO: Mass Effect seems to be the best-looking game in development for any console. The character models are just so incredibly realistic- some SciFi movies would kill for this level of graphics in a finished flick.
Maybe me being a huge SciFi nerd makes me biased here (yes it does), but this is still an incredible game.
And hate to kick the horse.
But Sony execs have been saying Killzone gameplay already looked that good for quite some time. To my knowledge, Bill Gates never claimed Halo 3 gameplay ever looked better than its demo. Or any other MS suit that I'm aware of.
And Bungie has a weekly developer diary where they've been talking about the progess weekly, and letting fans know the details of exactly what they'll be seeing in demo vids and exactly how it really does relate to the ...
The Unreal Engine 3 tech demo (non-tournament) became Gears of War, and the game looks as good if not better in some aspects. Realization of tech demos can happen.
"Killzone 2 already looks better than its e3 05 presentation."

We're only going to hold him to his own word.
Interesting how he has to note all this jazz about how this is just an example and not to think too harshly of it- he sounded pretty positive it was going to flat-out blow us away several montha ago.
What happened, Phil?
And the part that I love is that the "episodic content" is obviously not just hot air- the Halo Wars project proves that worthwhile games are coming down the pipe with these deals.
*rolleyes*
Anyone still listening to Jack Tretton for reliable info does NOT have any clue who he is.
Here's some fun quotes from this year:
(can't remember the exact quote) "I'll give anyone 1,200 if they can show me a PS3 that has stayed on a shelf for more than 5 minutes."
"Motorstorm will ship in 1080p at 60fps."
And the golden oldie:
"We could sell 5 million units without games."
Please...
Where's the bug?
That all looks like standard gameplay to me...
...note that this is largely due to the new, larger memory card. Again, the idea of the limit is to make the games fit on a mem card for the users who still choose to use a card.
...and no developer should need more then 50mb to bring PacMan or Paperboy anyway.
Despite all the overhyping, overpromising, and all the execs holding bibles in one hand and swearing that Warhawk would be a launch title that would prove the decicision to include motion-control, leading the way into the true next-gen, changing it to a download-only game is a great move and smart business strategy!

This news makes me very, very sad.
Having THE IDOLM@STER be the game to turn things around in Japan is...
It's like...
I'm not even going there.
Just..
Nevermind.
Back for Forza1- the demo absolutely, horrendously sucked yet the game came out fine. That's why I'm fine with this right now. This team brought things together at the last moment last time, and if they can do it again, I'm fine with that.
And yes, this IS like Bungie and Halo- most of Halo came together in 3 months, most of Halo 2 in maybe 6 months, and most of Halo 3 will probably come through in the last bit too. That's just how they do it.
I've been saying pretty much this exact quote for a long time:
"I don't care how legendary or historically successful a manager might be - if they are unable or unwilling to adapt to the culture, the vision you, as leader, have clearly communicated, they have to go. But not two years later, after the corrosive effect of doing things "their way" has already sunk in. Having a senior manager blame other groups for his group's woes? Raising concerns of investors, suppliers a...
Sony: "Rumble is last-gen."
Sony: "We chose not to include Rumble in the PS3."
Sony: ...has now licensed rumble for use in the PS3.
^^^Try as hard as you want to defend it, they got caught in (another) lie. Yeah, spin it as marketing or as "not a big deal" or however you want.
A year from now, big new PS3 games will feature Rumble and you'll need to get a rumble-compatible controller to enjoy them to their fullest (whet...
Am I the only one who sees the massive issue when combining Gundam (a series that's basically never had a great game despite the probably hundreds of entries) teams up with Dynasty Warriors (a series that hasn't added anything really new since it began) and you get massive sales? I don't care what system it's on, this isn't a good thing.
And don't get me wrong, I love Dynasty Warriors gameplay (just pick any one title, there's no real reason to pick up more than one) and I have...
Er, no, Wii is not capable. Not that those TYPES of games couldn't be done, obviously they could, but Wii even at its late-life prime will probably be pushing to equal first-gen 360/PS3 titles.
Also: You gotta remember that Scarface on current consoles only looks marginally better than GTA: Vice City. There's plenty of power left in the Wii to improve on that. And that's not a compliment to the Wii, really.
R2R was cool. Good to see it's getting some new life. But from the def jam developers? Mehh... so long as they stick to the original vision. And maybe if there's a create-a-fighter mode. That'd be great for R2R.
I love the Silent Hill movie... it was EXACTLY like the games, IMHO. Down to the tiny details like camera jerks that replicated in-game moments. What more could you ask for?
Oh, but the story was conoluted, had little resolution, and left lots of room for a sequel. Which is totally unlike the games, right? ;)
Hyperdrive was supposed to launch with the ability to play downloaded games, and TeamX made a lot of fuss over this. Sooo...
*beating a dead horse:
Phil Harrison, months ago:
"Killzone gameplay already looks better than its e3 05 presentation."
Phil Harrison, now (paraphrased):
"Oh don't worry, this game just isn't finished yet, but it WILL look better than its e3 05 presentation."
There's that 4th dimension again- everything on the PS3 always seems to need more time.
