Why doesn't Sony just claim the movie Spider-Man 3 was all rendered on the PS3 in realtime including the actors, and that all of the acting was really live gameplay? People would obviously believe it.

-At most game stores, parents are also notified of the ratings label and the content of the game. Especially if it's clear they're going to buy it for their kid, yes I've worked retail, and yes these parents are often VERY strongly warned about what they're buying.

Personally- Halo, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Gears of War, Golden Axe, Beavis and Butthead (the SEGA one with GWAR... I'm lazy), Simpsons Arcade, Gauntlet Legends, TMNT arcade, LEGO Star Wars, and any House of the Dead.
And Guitar Hero II isn't co-op, really. It's mostly Versus. I hate when people make that mistake.
Here's a wonderful thing to consider...
You walk into a Gamestop. Wii is the top seller, and everyone- employees and customers- rave about it. 360 is close behind, in sales and talk. PS3 is a distant third in all categories. PS3 is so far behind, this store and stores like it have to have special incentive programs to get employees to talk about it.
Do you blame this on employee bias, or on the system itself for not appealing to the public?
American (and European) gamers love Japanese games- people are trampling each other to import tons of games all the time. Why can't the Japanese like our games too? *insert shrug* Even when Japanse companies that normally kick major ass make "Western" games, they don't sell.
Does Guitar Hero II even sell in Japan? Checked- apparently not. Yet, any game remotely like this (Bemani) sells incredibly in America- even when it has to be imported. Wow.
So the gaming industry can only rock when Sony says so? Pfeh!
As with many other people, I'm gonna be freakin' broke this year. It is indeed a very, very good year for games.
That's another old story, actually. Before Xbox 360 released, Microsoft announced they weren't really too invested in either side, and it BluRay won, they'd have BluRay drives in WindowsPCs and put an external BluRay drive on 360. If HD-DVD were to win or at least survive, they'd prefer to stay with that as they do have some investment in that direction.
But, for example, 360 will never put games on either next-gen format and will stick with basic DVD, so Microsoft really can't...
1) Er, who promised a big announcement again? I didn't really see any quotes.
2) Who said THIS is the announcement? Links? Anyone?
3) And the arcade game that defined home console gaming, created the entire industry, and is still a massive phenomenon got new levels for the first time in nearly three decades, yet no one here cares. That says more about the people here than this announcement.
...or BluRay and DVD only own 2% of the market and this is a really stupid war that only hurts ALL consumers in the end.
And BluRay techniaclly CAN support the same formats, but it generally does not due to licensing and other odd issues, meaning HD-DVD is often superior in audio and video. As well as still being cheaper.

Gah- people are still missing (what I think is) the point.
Shadowrun twisted the IP waaaaay out of place. HD-DVD standalone players still outsell BluRay standalones. The only reason BluRay movies sell more is exclusively because of PS3. HD-DVD would be winning the war right now due to price alone, again if not for PS3. So BluRay isn't winning anything.
And what's taking up all that space? Nothing. Lots of HD-DVD movies, in fact, pack standard-def extras for no reason at all, so neither format is being fully utilized in most cases.
