I play CoD 4 with 3 year old tech with highest settings at 1920 x 1200 and average 85 fps (using Fraps). Only desktops still running Pentium 2's would have a hard time running the game.

We are barely at the 2 year mark for the PS3. They still are making a profit overall. Let's reconvene in 2010 (4 years after launch) to see what happens. Will they be under development of a PS4? Or a scaled down PS3? Or, maybe, all 3 consoles will be pretty much even when it comes to sales. Only time will tell. Sony did well with the PS and PS2. It would silly to assume they will fail to compete in sales with the PS3, based one regions sale numbers for a month.
That, IMO, Sony is looking at the big picture. As in overall. As in, "Holy crap, people are still buying the PS2?!" Sure, production costs for the PS3 currently can't sustain a price cut, but can you imagine after so many years on the market the production costs of a PS2? $10? In the big picture, Sony is not worried to the point of pushing out a PS4 in 2-5 years, because the PS2 is still going strong, which is helping Sony as a business overall. The future, again IMO, for Sony...
All this talk about console wars is just industry hype to help push sales. I blame the media for blowing out of proportion and thus creating the 'bad fanboy' persona. Does it really matter who sells more than who? I'm just glad they are all still selling well. Don't know about you, but I like to have choices when it comes to gaming. And when there's healthy industry competition going on, consumers are left with better choices. Can you imagine if today Wii was declared the winner and MS ...

EDIT: Metacritic fixed their Gamespy score to read 90.
Gamespy says 4.5 as reported by n4g, which 'should' translate into a 90, but Metacritic says it's an 80? Not tryin to start anything, but somebody's math is messed up.

Still in my book R2 is a AAA. I've never been disappointed by any Insomniac game and I doubt R2 will end that streak. I agree lots of games to play hard to choose which to buy/which to wait for but for me I reserved and paid a little every month ever since you could reserve it so all the big games are paid for now, all I gotta do is pick em up!
What determines if a game is AAA or not? Review scores?

In the meantime, I'm still breeding up the black chocobo on my PS3, which got me thinking, "The remake should have an option at the Golden Saucer to connect on-line. Then we can have online multiplayer CHOCOBO RACES! Or even FF VII GLADIATOR ARENA! Muhahahaha, my sword is bigger than yours!"
