I think when it comes to comparing the iPhone/iOS/Android games and a system like the Vita, your talking about two different markets.
The Vita is unashamedly a hardcore gamer's device. iOS and Android devices have games that are mostly glorified flash games, or those that aren't are marred by the fact that you have to control them with a touchscreen.
An iPhone game is used for killing a few minutes on the train or waiting for a bus. A Vita is used on...
If it simply had Chrome, or Opera or something it would be awesome.
I think a bit of this statement is lost in translation. Japanese is full of subtle nuances that when translated literally take on a different meaning.
they need to fix the web browser
I've never bought one, and I buy a lot of games. They're a waste of money, and just come bundled with some tacky toy or something.
What a horrible idea. Brand recognition is marketing 101 and Playstation has that in spades.
Back to school, back to school, to prove to my daddy I'm not a fool.
Vita cards are 'to' pricey
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think this opinion piece was written by the same guy who reviewed MW3.
IGN isn't like a newspaper where there's a consistent editorial line. They have a staff with a myriad of views. I think they need to communicate this fact more because audiences seem confused when stuff like this gets published, at seeming odds with the glowing reviews they give games like COD.
Show me one game on iPod touch as deep and well produced as Uncharted Golden Abyss?
iOS and Android games are by-in-large masses and masses of shovel ware, or glorified flash games. The few games that have potential to be decent are marred by the fact you have to control them with a touch screen, which is the most clunky, awkward and unresponsive control scheme ever.
Vita is the hardcore gamer's portable, for taking on holidays, away from home or long co...
Personally I'm sitting happy with a PS3 and 40 plus games in my library, about 10-15 of which I still need to pass. With Vita about to release too, which I'm all for, I don't see myself having time for or getting extra excited about a new console just right now.
That'd be an interesting setting.
You wonder how many people are still left to sell stuff to when consoles sell so much.
I think it all depends again on which console releases first and which has the better over the counter price.
Sony have to make sure they don't fall behind again. This whole gen has been a catch up game for them, and while the result may be that Sony have vastly improved their game since the PS3's shoddy launch, reality is Xbox still has it beat in sales in the key American market.
PS3 clearly.
Syphon Filter would be great for PS3. It's such a good franchise and the PSP iterations were great.
But God of War IV? God of War III was epic, but it was still God of War I and II but with awesome visuals. I can't imagine doing it all again and getting the same enjoyment- and I hate Kratos, he's such a boring character.
I'd like to see Sony Santa Monica work on a new IP. We know how talented that team is, I'd like to seem them do a diff...
Im sure they'd call it 'pride'. Like in Australia we're encouraged from the government down to buy Australian made and Australian brands to support jobs. I bet it's the same there.
Aside from a few major titles, we (western markets) don't buy Japanese games in large quantities either.
Ideally to me it would incorporate something similar to an Android OS and incorporate Smart TV features as well as dedicated gaming capability and become the hub of your home entertainment, where basically all your content- music, video, photos, web, comes through your PS4 and onto your TV set.
I think Sony expected this hence the proprietary memory. If the hackers won't pay for games they'll at least be paying for the memory to store them on.
They should be building hype now, not post-launch.
