The title of this article is just flaimbait, they aren't doing any damage control or whatever you want to call it. They are just rolling out a campaign to get the product selling.
If they were trying to compete they'd have a bigger budget or some exclusive partnership with big retailers.

Don't you guys know most things have fluctuating reviews? Look at God of War: Ghost of Sparta, been getting 9's 8's but G4TV gave it a 3/5, does that mean it sucks? Hell no.

But shipped in HIGH DEMAND, so what does that mean? WILL SELL.
Same with Kinect right now. They have a number of units shipped. They said they sold out, but my friend just bought Kinect with no preorder in Jersey today at a local store. Sold out? No, but they will be sure, if the demand is high. Same applies for Move, might not be sold out everywhere but it will be if demand is really high.

Its funny that people think you can't do depth sensing without a depth sensor.
Just because you can't track 3D depth does not mean you can't see when an object is getting closer, or further away. Plenty of PSEye games do what i'd call "depth", they can tell when you hand is going in an out, just like Kinect. It just uses different software.
Some other reviews beg to differ. There is one on here thats about 9 minutes long. The whole time hes setting up Kinect and talking about its features, and it doesn't recognize him once when trying to do face tracking. And his room isn't completely dark.
He was also 6'1" and had to adjust the camera, which readjusted itself after trying to do the face recognition, which didn't work.

I just read another on the site and the guy was having trouble calibrating the entire video, but at the end touted Kinect as being a must have. I was thinking wtf?

I agree they are both improvements in their own ways.
But all the features besides the 3D body tracking can be done on the PSeye, its just software. They have already demonstrated facial tracking with more points than Kinect uses on your whole body.
If it has a microphone I'm sure they can do voice recognition.

Eye Pet is augmented reality, kinectimals is not.

If that 500 million is their advertising 'budget' then that money goes to more than just commercials. It actually goes towards distribution as well as retail partnerships and segmenting. That budget also goes towards advertising research.
Overkill, idk, depends on how much they are allocating to each function, TV spots, partnerships, etc.

Just to let you know, Xbox 360's dashboard is quite the thing, and difficult to navigate if you aren't experienced in it.
Same with all the button options, difficult to find if your new. I know people on Xbox that just figured out 3 years later how to find all the games in the Game Marketplace, not just the newest 20. And how to quit to dashboard by hitting Y.

Sony adds: 3D (Games, Movies, Pictuers), BluRay, 1:1 motion tracking, and a new chip architecture.
MS adds: Live functions, and Kinect.
The lists could go on, but I'm sure we know which one will be longer. Not to mention consoles in the past have innovated more than the Xbox 360 has so far.

Live, I would argue is not much better than PSN. The gap in quality has gone down quite significantly over the past few years. And honestly if you deny it, your just biased and don't want to see the truth. Both have features that the other doesn't that I would say are nice to have.
And there is games to play on Live, main one is Halo Reach right now, then you got MW2, or play some classics.

The new bundle came out after the move bundle. If it launched side my side then you could compare them.

Isn't that contradicting yourself? It doesn't collect dust cause its always plugged in, but your not using it. Thats the same idea with Move and the Wii Mote. If you don't use it its "collecting dust".
