Theres a myth that theres no such thing as bad press. Trust me there is and this is hurting MS.

No, I dont feel ya.

Having a one button press to share option is brilliant and if MS hadnt thought about doing it they are now. Sonys method is simple, quick and effortless. Its a great addition and one button hardly adds "excess clunk".

A simple "We're not considering always on internet connection for any upcoming hardware" kills the rumour without confirming the next xbox exists.

@Sourav

No, they wont look like heroes, people will just think that they were putting it in and only back tracked because of the anger it caused. Doesnt make them heroes in the slightest.

Thats kind of the problem.

A simple "We are not considering implementing always online for future hardware designs at this time" would minimise the damage.

Now its too late. The big issue is that if they are going down this route releasing that information on their terms in their own way could have lessened the impact. Instead we hear it from the mouth of an arrogant obnoxious toss pot and thats how people are taking it.

If MS make...

That sound you're hearing is the PR division of Microsoft going into meltdown. Always on is a divisive idea but handled well MS could have limited the damage caused.

Handled like this turns them into the bad guys and MS will be forced into making a statement now. They cant stay silent on the issue now can they? Its left a bad taste in gamers mouths and surely the longer they stay silent the more damage is done. I dont expect he'll be staying in his role much longer, i...

Erm...how so?

If both consoles are similar multiplatformgames should be just a good as each other. Thats a good point, no shoddy ports. And just because they're similar doesnt mean they wont have differences, like which market they're trying to appeal to, design philosophy and services provided.

@Theyellowflash
Three of those games you mentioned are sequels so although they may be good calling them unique and innovative is maybe not totally accurate. Also we dont know if these games are actually any good. I could list 100 unique and innovative games on platforms other than the WiiU that are truly awful, so unique and innovative doesnt mean good.

Also dismissing offerings in other platforms is shallow and narrow minded. Uncharted is a great experience, Cod and...

Two words, "Dragon Quest".

You could release a Dragon Quest game for the NES console and it'd sell like hotcakes. Give it a couple of weeks then check sales again.

Nice to see some third party support, but why is it so late?! Ports of games that came out a year ago are not going to help the system. Yet recent multiplatorm games such as Tomb Raider or Bioshock Infinite simply arent being made for the Wii U.

Nintendo screwed the pooch on the Wii U launch, from confusing announcements, poor advertising to shockingly bad 3rd party support. If they'd hit the ground running they could have blitzed the next gen market before Sony/Microsof...

You're absolutely right. And I absolutely do not care. I'll be sticking with consoles next gen thanks.

Im glad you're happy with your PC. Im happy with my console. In a perfect world we'd both be content with our choices and that would be that. Except in the gaming world thats not enough is it? Its not enough to be self content, we have to push our views onto others too. To somehow convince others that our choice is the superior one to justify our decision. W...

@Jek
The reason you have so many disagrees is you make a perfectly valid, balanced point about multiplatform games, then finish with a claim that in 2012 MS released "a more core orientated slate of exclusives than Sony".

Whilst you were stating your opinion you failed to back this up in any meaningful way, therefore I disagreed with you. Had you said "more core games that interested me" or listed Sony and MS "core" exclusives to substan...

Fail. And im a die hard Playstation fan.

Women make up a key demographic in gaming. They're a large part of the market yet the industry still goes with stereotypes that have evolved from a male dominated industry. I know a few girl gamers and they're not looking for Zumba fitness or Just Dance, they're looking for core gaming experiences.

Being open to the changing demographic in gaming is not a negative. Its not sacrificing core gaming for casua...

Im creating a new console called the awesomeplaybox1983. It has these four great features that mean it will be a success:

1. Games - lots and lots of games
2. Cheap - it'll only cost tuppence ha' penny to buy.
3. Loads of features - you can facebook that retweet of that picture you captured while skpying with you aunti Mabel.
4. Amazing peripherals which mean you can control games using motion control, voice control and telekenesis.

"Only 4 things needed to make the Xbox 720 a success"

So assuming the next Xbox has these fours things it'll be a success? What about if its price point starts at $1000? Or it has new IPs but drops Halo, Gears and Forza? It allows used games but doubles the price of Xbox live?

These things are never going to happen, but my point is it takes a multitude of things to come together to be a success, not just four features.

@Greenpowers
Talking of fear, fear often creates paranoia, delusions, twisting what is real into something that is not true in order to either feed that fear or protect themselves from it.

You talk of all the hype going back to the next xbox. Show me where? And for the record articles titled "What the next xbox/ps4 needs to win next gen" dont count. The hype is with Sony, simply because they have a product to discuss. Thats fact, get over it because you know...

Fanboys are always good for a laugh. Allow me to debunk some of your comment before breakfast:

@Galactic Developers know whats going on a hell of a lot more than you or I. The fact they cant talk about it publicly yet means nothing. If a developers interested in developing for the next xbox they'll go to Microsoft and discuss it. They're not going to think "Oh, nothings been announced to the world therefore MS dont have anything lined up therefore I cant devel...

It was always going to be like Battlefield. You're not going to see a big successful IP innovate. What you get each time is an evolution of the previous game. Short of a reboot you will never see a succesful game break that formula.

Now whether you choose to accept that is up to you, but let me tell you, Cod, Fifa, Halo, Gran Turismo, Gow (Gears and God)...not one of them will be innovators. They will simply polish what has proven to be a winning formula for them. If you...

The other consideration is that the Playstation was born out of Sonys desire to compete with Nintendo. They were due to launch a CD based Nintendo console, with Nintendo providing the hardware using Sony components. Sony never wanted to build a console, they just wanted to be a supplier. Sony announced the partnership to the world and 3 weeks later Nintendo pulled out.

Sony were embarressed and yet still had this technology available that they'd developed. Story is the h...
