from 2004/2005. Its not a NEW fu*k up, just another recall from the same batch that affected Sony in the mass recall in 2006 (that was around 10 million batts).
My Euro launch PS3 has only ever fozen on Uncharted, and that was after the trophy patch. Its happened 3 times and it was always when I was checking Trophy info through the XMB whilst ingame. I avoid this by not accessing XMB ingame for uncharted and haven't had the problem since.
whilst a PS2 game is running, but you CAN pop up the PS3 options (memory card management etc)... so good point.
I agree, some games don't show the "Playstation 2" screen, and some do but it flicks on momentarily, much like in the video in this article. Look closely and you can see it flicker on briefly, and to me it looks authentic, or at least how it does behave on some PS2 games running on my Euro 60 Gig launch PS3.
I have a theory in that it has something to do with the way the resolution and scaling settings are coming into effect. it is possibly slower acting on some games ...
I think you are correct with secret patching of PS2 emulation, not only that I think they are still refining the PS1 emulation as well. I still actively check the few games that didn't work so well on my Euro 60 Gig PS3 (half hardware half software emulation of PS2)and they run with less glitches now. I still like to play some of the old games, so its nice to see, but may go unnoticed by most folks.
The biggest indication has been after 2.60 hit. The last game I had that wouldn't...
That the CGI from 2005 was made to look like it was in-game, running realtime on a PS3, and Sony even said it was. Then later it was found out that it was infact pre-rendered CGI. this created uproar and since then Sony have been mocked and ridiculed. People said they could NEVER make Killzone 2 look as good as that trailer......
But they have, and in most cases BETTER!......
Were not talking about a different render being made now, we are talking about a render mad...
And before September price cuts the 360 was getting crushed worldwide by PS3. Hence the price cut. And now the 360 is in Wii territory and is getting crushed still technically.
What should be done is this: -
Xbox 360 Premium and Elite sales Vs PS3
Xbox Arcade Sales Vs Wii Vs PS2
Then we'd see a more realistic split. I'd like to see this in sales data from now on. Just how many of the 360's sold are actually Arcade? Its clever that MS have the SKU ...
Not as in your face ass, but noticeable ;)
But some of the features they add should have come out on day 1. Its like having a half finished system then being grateful that 2 years later we receive the full product we originally expected when we paid 600 bones. Thats a bit harsh, because some of the features they add ARE bonuses. But there are still lots of small niggling problems that shouldn't be hanging around.
These are things I think shouldn't have been broken out of the gate: -
The browser is still a pa...
I have over 60GB music too, and a 320GB HDD. I use my PS3 as the central hub for media in my living room. I'd like a simple "Artist > Album > Track" Filter View. Every other media device I know can do this... apart from the PSP ;)
Also under Photo I'd like "Year > Month > Photo" Its as if under the XMB the PS3 can only handle 1 folder level. The weird thing is, the PS3 is capable of going deeper than 1 folder level. It can do it with inserted medi...
.. Then please explain how WipEout HD manages to Play and look amazing?
Microsoft talk about forcing. How about this; If buy an Xbox360 i'm forced to use DVD. With PS3 I have a choice, I can play DVD or Blu-Ray.
Another big one, Hard disks... I recently chose a 320 GB standard laptop HDD and it cost me a packet of peanuts. It slotted comfortably into my PS3 with no problems. In a few months time I could (If I so choose to) buy a higher capacity HDD and that too will ...
.. This bug seems like a really daft mistake. It can't take much to correct. Likely there will be a patch really soon because its affecting alot of people.
I personally have no problems with it crashing, but its got an annoying glitch every 10 to 15 seconds or so that cuts the music out for about a second. A bit like a CD skipping. It only happens on the ingame music, custom playlists are not affected. It does this online and offline. Quite annoying so I hope its patched too..
"Metal Gear Solid 4 blows retail away!

The Wii version to TOO colourful in my opinion. Its like they have upped the colour vibrance to appeal more to the Wii audience? Sure at first sight the Wii version looks "better" colour wise, but the games graphics are meant to be of a particular style to that of a painting... so with that, take your pick: -
PS2 = Water colour
Wii = Oil paint
So decide on your favourite art style. This isn't your normal Xbox 360 Vs PS3 debate where "Drab" c...
And he was comparing 250 GB Laptop drives to the 120 GB Xbox 360 drive. 250 GB laptop drives are about $150 if not less by now. 500 GB are still pricey but i'll bet my bottom dollar that they come down in price fast.
The Xbox 360 might have a "proprietary" drive, but inside its just a standard SATA laptop drive with fancy casing. So really Microsoft are gouging their customers.
The main point of the article is right, Microsoft need to get bigger hard drive...
WOW! can you download the cheetos and Slurpee over Xbox live as well? Thats cool!
Why do all you folks loving the Xbox 360 think Sony wont counter this just because they have Blu Ray? Sony have the hardware better suited to offering downloadable Movies (And music for that matter), main point being that every PS3 has a HDD. Sony also own a big slice of the movie pie, they can jumpstart ahead of Microsoft in an instant just by offering their own movies. Sony aren't going to rest on...
because i'm in Denmark and every game is in English. The only time i've seen anything remotely translated is in Video clips, we get Danish Subtitles. Big Whoop!
Maybe its different in France, Spain, Germany where English isn't so strong.
Since IE 7 came out and completely sluggarded my machine I decided to try Firefox, I like it. I wish Sony would get Firefox into the PS3 instead of the sloooow browser it has now.
I'm glad someone came out so quickly to defend the Saturn. The guy that wrote the Saturn off as worst console must have a screw loose. Some stellar games came to Saturn, my Favourites among the usual classics were also Duke Nukem 3D, Exhumed and Quake (The port of Quake to Saturn blew me away!) and the sublime DEATHTANKS! (only accessible through Duke nukem when it detects a save game from either Exhumed or Quake in memory). Many many nights of 4 player Death tanks, with firends, drinking and...
Strange article, its praising Sony, why not read "Is Sony the new Sega we loved in its heyday?" Associating PS3 to Dreamcast instantly says "Fail", it shouldn't because the DC was amazing, but thats how it comes across.
Why does there HAVE to be another "Dreamcast" anyway? First it was Xbox 360 is the new Dreamcast back when it launched (i.e. it will fail)... and now its PS3.. Why? Because people like to think that Sega's mistakes will happen again? ...
