Its actually a wonderful idea. They should also start preloading all those 1/2 decent F2P games too: Warframe, DCUO, even a FFXIV (trial). Would be sweet for new owners to nab a console and immediately have games ready, and installed, for access.
Not sure why anyone would be against this idea--all of the games can be deleted at the push of a button or two, if you don't want them on your HDD.
Based on the average to poor hardware that they were working with, yes.
Why not expect a $400 console ($500 until recently), made in 2013 to have the same standards as mass-market TVs have had since 2011--where penetration of 1080p hit 55%, and has only climbed since? I think that's a better question. The willingness of Xbox fanboys to accept mediocrity is an embarrassment. My God, since when is 1080p some mythic, lofty goal that only the greatest of developers can achieve? It is the BARE MINIMUM for HD gaming in 2014, period. The standard has been set by con...
Competition is only competition when it is providing a desirable alternative, or when the needs of the consumer are not being met by the options available. MS's machine if a colossal F-up that only the die hard fans seem to want. It has hardly any redeemable or unique features, especially not that Kinect has been dis-Kinected. Now, its just a less powerful PS4, without Vita connectivity, PS Now, the slew of F2P games, or any of the advantages Sony's machine has (including on-point mes...
PS4 is in the Amazon top 10, $399 X1 is somewhere around #50. Keep moving those goalposts. What will the excuse be next month? Wait for Halo!!! X1 has lost the plot for MS and they don't have the savvy or studios (all new and unproven) to get it back. Nor can they just throw money at the problem to make it go away, this time.
X1 sold 77K. Absolutely miserable. Bububut the pricecut! Mark my words, it will barely move the needle this month. There's a chance the Wii U even outsells them in June on account of MK8 overflow.
Through sorcery, or pixie-dust? Or another helping of the secret sauce? Very rarely does a game ever suddenly leap from a development resolution to something better. Assassin's Creed IV and Titanfall's minuscule boost (792p is where its at now, never saw that 900p update, did we?) are the only exceptions of which I can think. And this is a first party game, so they should have all the access to all the tools MS has at their disposal.
Disappointing, but expected, sinc...
More exciting than the WoW film, I reckon. The lore has always taken itself seriously, contrary to Blizzard's game, which is laden with toilet-humor and Rastafarian trolls.
So expect to see the PC version mapped to console controllers at every show then. Fool me once, Ubi...
You realize he was entirely present and influential when this gimped-hardware-for-inclusion- of-lifestyle-marketing-device monstrosity was conceived in the first place, right? I love the revisionist history and Messianic status you people are giving to this man. He's just as responsible as Yusef or Mattrick. As the former president of their studios, he's also the same man who pumped out nothing but Halos, Forzas, Gears and Fables for years, and is now claiming that exclusives are the ...
Non-stop CGI of exclusives that won't be out for two to three years, is what you meant.
The hyprocrisy is that they STILL showed more games than MS AND threw in 1/2 an hour of media and product stuff. Count them up: 24 FTP (why oh why does everyone keep forgetting about console exclusive KUF2 and Planetside 2), 12 Indies, about 10 multiplats that all run and have better DLC and bonuses on PS4, and their AAA IPS. Games like Bloodborne, which, I might add will hit before Quantum Break does! And QB was announced last year.
My God, did MS ever reach far, far into t...
The 10% only brings it up to a 1.3TF machine, it isn't magically adding more power to the base hardware than it fundamentally contains. PS4 is 1.8TF. Nothing will close that gap. Both GPUs aren't that great, to be honest, but PS4's at least is serviceable for the next 5 years.
Are people really buying this? Tools mature, sure, but there's no making up for the difference in GPU strength between the two consoles. Period. The end. Stop drinking the PR kool-aid. Any 1080p X1 games are going to come with a lot of compromises, same as if you ran the game on a low-range 7000 series mobility card. You think Destiny won't be short some AA, vsync, or a heap of particle effects? Because it will be. Same with any other 1080p, far-reaching title. X1 will always lag in t...
Been waiting for this one for some time. Shame there is no hype when it looks so incredible. And we haven't had a proper Action/ RPG/ MMORPGs/ RTS, really anything like this, ever.
Also PS4/ PC exclusive, for those with their "lists".
Yes, but will MS allow cross-platform play? PS players are already integrated with PC, mind you. Otherwise there's no point as the community will be dead.
The only issue is that neither you, or this Steve fellow (the author), seem to have the faintest idea what free to play is. These games aren't charities. Not everything is free, but nearly everything is accessible, if gated through grindy mechanics or time-sinks. Most, good F2P games a person can literally not sink a dime into, and can still experience all the content of a paying player, albeit not with as much speed or convenience.
Edit: Btw, "at point of entry"...
If you mean best CGI trailers of games that we won't see for 3 years, then yeah, MS "won". They did the same thing they did last year, which was to blow their load on stuff so far out that its a dream. Remember Black Tusk's game... Oh, yeah, about that... Sony showed stuff we'll be playing this year (next 12 months), including the Order, 24 F2P titles--like KuF2--and even squeezed in some hardware and media stuff. Oh, and 90% of MS' conference was multiplats, all of ...
Except Bloodborne and UC4 are in full production, and 2015 was shown for the former. Sony's games are much farther along than either of the CGI stuff MS showed. So Tom is wrong. Plus people are glossing over the TWENTY FOUR F2P titles, including KUF2, that are hitting PS4 in the next 12 MONTHS. PS4 has too many games to even count at this point, and its leaving the libraries of competing consoles in the dust. Period.
Because its intuitive to stare in two places at once, when lining up shots, right? Only works if you're a sniper with a lazy eye.
