Consumerism at its finest. If sports fans want to argue about who sold the most tickets, or who sells the most hot dogs, sure, it's the same. Let's not pretend that fanboys limit their debates to the merits of individual games.
Here's the biggest difference though: I love my teams. I hope they win every game. I'm also right there with the rest of my fellow fans criticizing every bad call, every dropped pass, every bad shot.
That would be ...
"One thing about fandom that sadly never changes is that a lot of fans have the attitude of being a stockholder of the company despite not being one. They cheer on their financial numbers as if that impacts their lives and if their decisions led to it. They argue about Metacritic ratings simply because they want other people to perceive the thing that they support as being great. They are concerned with so much stuff that ultimately doesn’t matter to them. If they simply just took a step...
Not quite what they were saying...
People playing the game on GP has supposedly been shown to encourage non-gp users to buy the games. It's the same thing we see when a game is offered on PS+ and GWG, then see a sales spike a month or two later. Your friends are playing a game, streamers are playing the game, people on Twitter are talking about the game...so you buy it.
The overall test is going to come down to player numbers, not sales numbers. If t...
That makes at least two of us. Currently playing OW on GP....also just ordered LM3 from Amazon.
Streaming?
I've suspected that most of their recent..."endeavors" have been aimed at funding an update to their engine for ES and other games next gen. But they're running into a problem.
If they do too much damage to their brands and overall clout, they risk permanently handicapping themselves in the future. Imagine if they had spent the last year getting F76 in better shape prior to release. Imagine if they had invested more time and money into Rage and Youngblood...
Expected, but I am surprised that it wasn't exclusive for a full year.
I think most of us have run into the issue with selling off loot before you know that it will be important later. It's to the point where I'll just Google "loot to keep in _________" before playing. And it's not exclusive to your typical WRPGs. I screwed up in games like HZD and RDR2 doing this same thing.
To the larger points raised, so far in my playthrough of OW, it's striking a nice balance of open world freedom of Fallout and something more ...
700k with their install base was low, especially considering how many years it had been offered. Point being, you could say 100 million PS4 users felt the value proposition wasn't there to subscribe. When you think that PC users could subscribe too, the numbers are even more disappointing. If Sony were satisfied with those numbers, they wouldn't aggressively work to improve the service and lower the price.
We only know that GP has millions of subs, but who knows t...
Fire Emblem is still sitting firm in my GOTY list.
I'd say if it was worth it, their subscriber numbers wouldn't have been so low, and they wouldn't have had to slash the service price in half and add newer titles.
Market says it wasn't worth it. Hell, Shu even says it wasn't worth it.
Schreier may not be anyone I'd defend too often, but reporting on gaming info he received from sources is his job. If the only "news" you care to read is official PR news releases, then why come to a site like this in the first place?
If the game was pushed back, then it was pushed back. Who cares if it had an announced release date? Nobody is claiming it ever did.
Turn down the sensitivity. Sony had planned launch dates. The word from his...
If only I could go back in time and protect myself from the horrors of enjoying Netflix all these years. If I had known that they'd increase the price, I would never have subscribed in the first place!
Seriously, if Game Pass becomes a poor financial choice for me in the future, I won't subscribe. Don't be fooled to think that the market won't be OK either way.
I like taking shots at bad journalism with the best of them, but this guy literally points out that it never had a release date. It's just a report on Schreier's sources telling him that GoT's launch was pushed back. Who also was clear that it never had a release date.
Makes sense with TLOU coming in late May. My guess is that this might have been GoT's slot.
Pretty much my thought. If they continue to curate the catalog, it's actually going to get more exposure. I've played at least a dozen indies on GP that I'm sure were buried in a digital storefront for months before I "discovered" them on GP.
Same thing with Humble.
Doubt they received much of a message. D2 and Anthem are still sitting in the top 10 for 2019 sales.
"Failure" for them is expecting a truck load of cash, but only getting a trunk full.
I'm perfectly fine with ND asking for more time. It worked out pretty damn well for the first game, and ND earned the right to make these requests imo.
But man, I am legitimately surprised that so many people think FFVII will hit its date.
It's Square. It's FF. We know how this ends...
@Bluefox
Or your YOY is made in comparison to an unusually high quarter last year.
Had it not been bolstered by the X last year, you'd probably see a more gradual gain this year. In addition to selling less hardware generally at this point, it's also selling for less $$. They received an uncharacteristic boost with the intro of the higher priced mid gen refresh. In years past, a slim or new model wouldn't provide that kind of revenue boost....
Q1 2019 was ridiculously good for them. Only dropping 7% for q1 2020 overall is probably pretty good considering last year's numbers were inflated by the $500 X still seeing upgrade purchasers.
I'm sure there are probably some funny comments if someone wants to check into it.

I subbed last year and just used the app on my TVs.
People don't like it when the price increases and competitors offer better selection (my reasons for switching).
