People are going to have a field day if Geoff is handing Kojima the trophy at the end of the day. Part of me wants to see it just for the sake of pure entertainment.
To his credit, I'm not sure he gets a vote on the winners.
Smash released in December at the same time as last year's awards. It didn't qualify last year.
"Better than expected" sounds like "It could be worse" to me.
The advantages to game streaming (low cost of entry) do not outweigh the drawbacks for many people. The best way to make up for that is to offer a more competitive market. These prices are laughable compared to what we can see at retail, Steam, PSN or Xbox store.
This should be the cheapest place to buy your digital license for these games. Not more expensive.
Lol. Why is this even arguable? How many articles do we see calling DS the biggest new IP, or COD as the best selling new COD. Do people think that means total sales?
If it hasn't outsold Gears 4's initial numbers, and he went out a fabricated that, yeah, I'm not confident he'd still be around.
This just reinforces my point. Nothing triggers more scrutiny than a Spencer interview. With that in mind, he really knows not to go out there lie...
I never assumed it was lifetime sales.
I took it as 2 months of 5's sales are higher than 2 months of 4's sales. I can't see this being true of lifetime sales.
He cannot fabricate that.
It's not difficult.
I love movies. It was only a few years ago that I was buying dozens of DVDs every year. Than I started buying Blu Ray's, but less so than before. Now, I might buy a handful a year. I still like the option, but I really don't care that much. I can log on and find what I'm looking to watch in less time than it takes to get the disk.
I'm feeling the same way about gaming more and more. I am proud of my fairly sizable ...
10b-5s can be brought as a claim by shareholders or the SEC directly. Damages wouldn't be as difficult to establish as materiality of these types of statements.
Spencer has been with MS for 30 years, and press interaction is a primary component of his job. He'll know the difference between puffery and explicitly stating that a product sold more than X. He'd have defenses if this type of statement was false, but he'd also be out of a job.
...
No, he really can't. Hell, Elon Musk was brought up on charges for a tweet.
I get that, but the SEC wouldn't care about "deflection." It would care if he came out and falsely made a statement that would impact shareholders.
Like lying about sales figures, for example.
And unfortunately, we do have Kinect numbers. They were way better than they deserved to be.
It's still an exec of a publicly traded Corp. "Take our word for it" still cannot be materially false or intentionally misleading.
Uh huh...You mean something like Origin Premiere?
Anyway, you understand how this works, right? These services are good for devs BECAUSE devs get money to put their games on the service. We pay Sony and MS for the sub, they pay the dev, we play the games. It seems to have a positive ripple effect on sales thereafter, but primarily it's good because it's guaranteed income.
Most games get 90% of their revenue in the first few months. Many games in...
Get with the times.
Fanboys in 2013: "Booo digital. We want used games!! Pubs and Devs make enough money!"
Fanboys in 2019: "Booo subscriptions! The devs won't make any money!"
I've been waiting for MS to destroy gaming as we know it for 18 years now. You grow used to the cheerleading and shilling after awhile.
Gaming isn't going to collapse because of GP. The used game market has been the biggest detriment to a dev or pub's wallet since the beginning. Suddenly a subscription service that actually lets someone other than Gamestop see some revenue will destroy it all?
I think Christopher's point is well taken. If we're talking about what's in the best interest of the 150 million PS4 and Xb1 owners, nobody should be hitting the brakes.
The only reason to hold off on 2020 output would be to (almost artificially) boost the appeal for new hardware next year.
Xbox has a lot of non-xbox owners to attract. Launching a nice new system with new games is the best approach obviously. Will PS4-only or other non- X1 own...
I am honestly surprised. They could hold a good number of these titles for next gen just to boost the numbers, but I understand that now is probably the best time to try to begin to change the "no gamez" perception.
I still think they need some heavyweight announcements for E3 and for early 2021. Halo and BC will give them a strong launch, but they need to be guns blazing for at least a year or two after launch especially.
I would guess that w...
Horizon 4 is what convinced me to get GP. That released last year while they purchased all of those new studios.
Since then, their first party released Gears 5. If you consider either of those to be filler, than I don't know how they could convince you otherwise.
Then we see some of what their new studios have in the pipes. I know these apparently aren't up to the sophisticated tastes some people pretend to have, but AoE4 and Wasteland 3 are big, ...
You're going to s*** post about these games in multiple threads, and then throw out something like Left Alive? Come on now.
Not only no Scarlet news, but it also seemed like almost everything with a release date hits before next gen.
Not a bad showing for this final year. It doesn't have that big swan song (unless you count Halo being bc), but this is a marketable improvement from how they ended prior gens.
I have no problem if they focus on MP. It's what got them here.
As a 1st party, they need a lot of variety though. If they can manage a few cinematic SP games, either through their own studios or 3rd party exclusives, they'll be in good shape.
I'm more excited about Wasteland 3 next year than I am for Cyberpunk, Halo, or GoT (Tlou2 tops all), but it will barely get any attention on here or other places.
They have AAA shooters and racers, and no one wants to hear about more of those. We all know what genre they're missing, and it's the one Sony excels at and focuses on.
Anything short of that will be looked down on.
I don't think the issue is really so much about whether or not it's deserving of an award. The optics are just going to be hilariously bad.
You've got the show's producer as an extremely outspoken supporter and friend of the game's creator. Then there's the fact that Geoff appears in the game himself too, right? Yeah, I'm sure the internet mob won't make any accusations...
For Geoff's sake, I hope GOTY goes to somethin...
