Here's what I see:

$499 for X, $299 for Lockhart (maybe higher if PS5 is also at $499). Launch with just the Series X at first and preach power to your early adopter market. Launch Lockhart in 2021 when you stop production of the Xb1 and the $299 price is more feasible.

The # of TFs won't matter to the target audience of the Lockhart (casual/economic customer), so I expect they'll keep marketing focused on it being a "value" system...

Sega was ahead of the game for just about all these modern "features."

"Maybe it could run, but then we would have to tone down the textures and this and that and it wouldn't look as cool anymore."

Doesn't sound like it's due to its game design or anything that the current systems couldn't run. It sounds like it would just be graphical downgrades.

Engine issues may be the bigger issue like he mentions, but if DOS2 can run on Switch...

It's all going to be meaningless PR. There's no way either could get away with charging for patched versions -- especially after the Pro & 1X have come to market. They'll both use it as a "bonus" feature though.

Nintendo is the only one capable of getting away with it, but I don't think it'll work for Switch 2.

That's not really accurate either. It's actually pretty impressive.

The saving grace for some may be that Nintendo is so backwards sometimes, it may take them awhile to even notice...

Get your mario clones in while you can guys!

Fair use won't help many of these creations. Anytime you tread even remotely close to "clone" territory, the cease and desists will be coming.

I give it only a few months before we start seeing the takedown notices come flying. We know Sony's got a lot of attorneys, but they won't be able to do much to help them when something as vague as a fan made game having the same "look and feel" is enough to justify a copyright claim.

Still is.

Truth is, nobody gives two s***s that you or I beat the game on hard mode.

If a mod or cheat is used by people who aren't as skilled, it doesn't bother me in the least. It takes nothing away from my experience either.

If someone uses those things to enjoy a game they otherwise might not have due to physical or cognitive disabilities, it makes me happy.

Sure. But then you consider we just got a Batman game trilogy, a batman movie trilogy, a 3rd Holland Spidey flick coming...and a 2018 Spiderman game that ends on a cliffhanger.

I see no reason to believe they'd give much consideration to a shift here.

Spiderman being on this list made me laugh. Not only was there an obvious cliffhanger, and not only did it sell ridiculous numbers, but it's Spiderman!

We've gotten Spiderman games for every console since Atari. From Ps2 through PS3, we got a game practically every year. Some were sequels, some weren't. But more is coming regardless, and I think they'd be crazy not to make it a sequel to 2018's. Probably even two sequels should come next gen.

@S2

So copying and pasting interview transcripts into articles on fledgling gaming sites is the master plan for MS here?

2162d ago 10 agree3 disagreeView comment

@RPG

We've seen at least a half dozen articles from that same podcast. Sites are using an interview from November to still make articles. Look out if the guy tweets something!

We get manipulated by clickbait constantly by these sites. If you want some ad revenue, just put out a Spencer article. You'll instantly get some people interested in what he said, and thousands more who seem to get triggered as soon as he opens his mouth.

Again, it was a single podcast. I've never seen an executive get used to generate clicks for gamesites more than Spencer.

2162d ago 19 agree13 disagreeView comment

I'd encourage you to listen to the full discussion. These articles all come from the single interview.

It's an interesting talk. As consumers, we can't fool ourselves into thinking that games won't be monetized one way or another as the industry grows and changes.

Whether that's MTs or single, $60 disc on a shelf, it's all part of the same discussion. Figuring out what is best for devs AND consumers should be the goal. Personally ...

Technically they never went don't that road themselves, right?

They announced plans in mid-2013 that we disliked and we gave them shit about it. They went to market without them, but we reminded them of their mistakes every chance we got.

Now they're doing things we can praise. It's not really all of a sudden when we're approaching 7 years later here. I don't know how else to look at it.

You can perpetually hate on...

We'll still get some, but mostly 3rd parties is my guess too.

At least CDPR came out today and affirmed that they're one of the good guys!

Worth a listen. Ted Price was the reason that the price tag was worth it for Sony to buy that studio. All of the episodes are worth checking out if you have an interest in gaming outside of the race to the bottom churn-alists and forum crusaders.

And it's discussions like this that I wish people in the Spencer hate club would listen to. The guy has the respect of people actually working to make us great content. Whether I agree with all of his decisions at MS or not,...

I don't know how many is too many, but having GOW3, Uncharted 1-3, Tlou, and the QD games sitting on my PS3 shelf at home made it tough to want to rebuy them. I did eventually of course when they did go on sale, but hopefully we're to the point where it's not necessary.

I do think 3rd party are bigger abusers than 1st party Sony though. I also expect more remakes from Sony, but taking 15 year old games and remaking them isn't as bad as paying another $50-60...

"The 6 Xbox Series X teraflops (and 12 GPU teraflops) are big"

What is the "6" referring to?

Regardless, this seems like a "no s***" article. Of course there is more to consider than TFs, but it's nice to see them going big with the GPU.

The only number in that 4chan rumor that I didn't like was the 500gb ssd spec on PS5. Too small. With the Github breakdown, we at least know where the numbers come from, but it required a lot of speculation afterwards.

I can't put too much credit in either personally. I truly hope both are at 12tf. It makes for an awesome generation.

I will give props to those who stuck with the 12tf claim for several months now though. I know they took a lot of...
