YOU would have paid but not everybody else could have. Companies look at the majority of the users when designing products. They could have made another $600 console but who would have bought it then? Remember the fuss everybody made about the PS3's price and how its sales suffered initially? Consoles are budget gaming devices. People who have money to burn can always go the PC route.
Who said it was 100% better? The GPU is roughly 50% more powerful and that is a big enough difference. The superior RAM configuration is a completely another matter. The difference is evident from the performance of multiplat games on PS4. The power is there, now it is up to the developers to decide how to use it; whether they upgrade the resolution or the graphics or the fps or a balanced combination of all three.
Well, it is still ahead of the Xbone and that is the whole point. The console is more powerful compared to its competitors and it has better performing multiplats games to back up that claim. Nobody is claiming it is the most powerful gaming machine in the world that can run anything and everything at 1080p 60fps.

Actually, it is all about games. Japanese developers moved to the handhelds because of high development costs and poor sales on 7th gen home consoles so Japanese gamers moved to the handhelds too. The home consoles mostly have western games these days so they do not sell much in Japan. Let us see if the PS4 will bring the Japanese developers and JRPGs back to the home consoles with its ease of development and extraordinary worldwide sales. Ummmm... that excuse has never worked in the favor of any game (Pikmin 3, SM3DW, DmC, Wonderful 101, etc.). Games sell the major portion of their first week sales in the first 2 days and sales never pick up in the second full week. 3 days are more than enough to judge the weekly sales and impact of a game on the hardware.

I acknowledge those few JRPGs even though they faded in to obscurity without any follow-ups. Also Wonderful 101 is a new IP even though eccentric and flop but X is just a sequel/successor to Xenoblade. However, please dont count shovelware, eshop games and casual games as new IPs. I am talking about major core games that make an impact on the industry or mark the start of new franchises. Games like Uncharted, Last of Us, Gears of War, Halo, Little Big Planet, ...

Nintendo is the one that held on to cartridges when CDs were introduced, shunned HD gaming, shunned online gaming and shunned various genres of games except platformers.
So where are the new IPs if they are so creative and risk-taking? One or two new IPs in more than a decade like Wonderful 101 or Xenoblade do not cut it. Most of the people were actually disappointed with the boring battle and cluttered interface with all the damage numbers. The were no solid details about gameplay, story,world design and characters. There wasn't even a release quarter let alone a release date and we get this kind of stupid article. Xeno games have never been killer apps or system sellers.They are excellent games...
It was not just me man. Most of the people did not like what they saw. Check the reactions on the web especially for Monolithsoft's X including Neogaf, gamefaqs and twitter. It was all 3DS and eshop games and nothing about Wii U. Bayo 2, MK8 and DKTF are all games we have already seen and heard about. The only new thing was a boring and monotonous gameplay video of X where 3 people continue to shoot a gorilla for 5 minutes while it just stands there. There was no big reveal like you guys ...
