The answer is simple. The kind of games available on the system. The games currently available appeal to the western market but not to the Japanese market as much. There no JRPGs, visual novels, dating sims, train sims, anime based games, Resident Evil, Metal Gear (until another week), Final Fantasy, Tales of, Shin Megami Tensei, Devil May Cry, Star Ocean or any other Japanese developed games. People who are comparing PS4 second week sales with Wii U second week sales are ignoring the fact that that Wii U launched during holiday season, was cheaper and had Japanese games. PS4 launched during February when people had already blown their income during Christmas and there werent any major Japanese games. Just wait for MGS5, FF15, true DMC5, Resident Evil 7, KH3 and other Japanese games, then we will talk about PS4 sales in Japan.
Japanese are also waiting for Japanese franchises. Final Fantasy, Kingdom hearts, Meta Gear, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and JRPGs are yet to come. All of those franchises will sell by truckloads in Japan. For now MGS Ground Zeroes will definitely have great sales this month.
It is official now. PS4 has overtaken Wii U and become the highest selling next-gen system worldwide. Congratulations to Sony! :D Just imagine taking over the 15 months of sales of a rival in just 3 and a half months! It is PS2 vs Dreamcast all over again. Probably. It would be really stupid for any developer to remain exclusive to Xbone because of the stellar PS4 sales unless MS pays for it. On the other hand, they would not lose much if they became exclusive to PS4 since majority of the next-gen gamers own a PS4.

Maybe Sony did not see potential in the new IP? Games are often cancelled when they look like they will not sell much in the end or they are not turning out as expected they would or there isnt enough money to complete the game. Still it is disheartening to see a new IP go down the drain without even finding out what it was.

When did Nintendo dominate the home console market in Japan except the Wii since the 5th gen? If you are talking about handhelds then keep them out of the home console discussion. I am talking about the home console market. The PS4 will outsell the Wii U and faces no competition from the Xbone in Japan.
People were saying the same thing about the worldwide home console market before the PS4 and Xbone launched. Many thought that tablets and mobiles had replaced traditional gaming. Nobody is defending Saudi Arabia; people are defending Islam from false accusations. Saudi Arabia is in no way an exemplary and truly Muslim country.
