People tend to forget that before PS3 was released, HD-DVD was leading. And what if it isn't in stores - it's still available online and the Next-gen DVD format really hasn't taken up, so it really doesn't matter yet.
Myself I think it's good that Paramount goes HD-DVD only. I'm a supporter of this side and would love to see Blu-eay fail. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see who wins. This war has turned to and from all the time.

Why got through all that trouble just to get a DVD player with no remote and no digital sound and lots of other missing DVD functions? You can get a better DVD player for far less than the price of a Revolution and it still beats the heck out of it in terms of DVD playback.

Develop OS for 10 years, test 1 month, release. Buggy as no tomorrow.
That applies to pretty much any microsoft product. And they claim they release quality software? Have a certain quality standard? No way in hell!
Why bother? In 5 years, the technology will beat the crap out of the PS3 anyway and there will be a PS4, so again, why bother?
Release a mediocre console that lasts 5 years, drop the price, get out the PS4, do the same, everyone will be happy.

It may explain why there's so many returns (and why Microsoft is rumored to remove the "4 red rings of death"), but it doesn't explain the polls that say 30-40% of owners have had their console die at least once on them.
Problem with cell phones is that talking in them is pretty much standard and won't improve very much/easily. The manufacturers has to cram other stuff in the phone to make it worthwhile selling a new model, and hence gaining market share and money.
Now, the PS3 costs $600. In 5 years, maybe it's down a bit. But then there's the PS4 out. Sony just beefed up them specs to be able to do so much other THAN gaming. The Cell processor, for sample, isn't ideal for games--it was made for media...

Don't count HD-DVD out yet, just because BD is having the lead right now. If I'm not mistaken, didn't HD-DVD lead just before the PS3 launched? Hmm?
That Sony even had to restort to limiting access to the CPU from the start screams of poor hardware -_-
Now all they need is support for Bluetooth keyboard (the controllers use bluetooth, so why not?!) and support for chatting online! ...Is it not?
Hey, let's not forget that the "breeding" is just an extra feature, and hey, it's the first game, pretty much that allows you to make a successor. Who doesn't want a successor?

I know Nintendo really doesn't like Action Replay, but many do - do they really have the right to do so? It will certainly piss off people who like to use cheats in games. And what right do Nintendo have to choose how people play?

Sure, some casual members and the family may like those channels, but what about the "hardcore"? They care nothing for it.

Many people tend to forget that HD-DVD is still far more popular in Europe than Blu-ray. USA isn't the center of the world - this format war isn't over just yet.
