I dunno about you guys, but if there's one thing that pisses me off it's "wonderful footage". Who does it think it is being all fabulous?
I was honestly just expecting this game to look nigh-on identical to TR: Definitive Edition as it's perfectly normal for sequels these days to look only marginally better than their predecessors. It would've also explained all the effort they went into improving the tiny details in the DE.
Boy was I wrong! And I'm pretty happy about that!
I don't want to be a drag but there's no way I'm getting this game until they patch the performance of the first two. And that's not hyperbole, the performance of FFXIII-2 in particularly is so poor that I genuinely do not have confidence in this one being much better.
*facepalm* Yeah, because the Kickstarter is supposed to "kickstart" the project, not fund it outright. If you can't put the pieces together it should be pretty clear that Sony is one of the significant benefactors involved here.
Nice find. TBH I'm not entirely sure what the company does but it looks like some kind of communications intermediary that helps pull together projects. Not entirely sure.
Edit: On second thought it looks like this is the actual development studio, and Ys Net are the ones the ones lending creative influence over the project. So this Shibuya Productions I assume is doing all the grunt work: programming, modelling, that kind of thing.
If you haven't played the second one let me say this: You don't understand why people are excited for Shenmue III. You think you do. But you don't. I won't ruin the game for you though, but needless to say it is a big step up over the first game.
This... actually might be a good idea. They still had plenty of combat in the trailers, but of the kind that appeared to complement the movement style of the game. Happy that the developer isn't just trying to tick mass-market checkboxes here.
I've not played Doom, but from what I've seen of it I certainly felt this was a different kind of game from the original.
My impression of the old Doom was:
i) It was a lot faster. This new Doom feels slower than the recent Wolfenstein games.
ii) Weapons are the exact opposite of hitscan/instant hit with many "spray" type weapons that lag behind character movement slightly (creating the need to adjust your aim/movement). I d...
The screens are from the Japanese version. I'm not sure I'd class those as "new".
Some level-headed picks with solid reasoning behind them. I've seen these mentioned before, but normally by overzealous PC gamers rather than critical consumers looking to get the best out of their console experience.
Pretty nice reductions if they've managed to get an end result that looks near enough the same.
True. But the good news at least is that some of these techniques or not only pretty but computationally less expensive than the alternatives <-- which means we might realistically see them being used.
Whereas I see what your saying about quality/quantity there's a point the quantity is so low that the argument stops holding water. Two games is too few to garner a fan following of the kind Team Ico has. Team Ico's most notable trait at this point is NOT making games.
In this world of indie feel-em-ups Team Ico looks been-there done-that. They don't have the Rockstar factor anymore (and funnily enough Rockstar's The Agent is another game that draws parallels ...
That would make sense to me if we'd actually seen anything of this game. Even FFXV had the occassional trailer or render. With TLG we've literally had pretty much nothing to sustain momentum.
And with only two games under their belt I just don't see how this studio is able to sustain hype on the back... nothing. The calibre isn't there nor the information.
TBH I'm not really sure why anyone is excited at this point given that there was near zero reason to care in the first place. We've seen next to nothing, have no idea how the game plays in the slightest and on top of that it's been years, meaning the game might not resemble the original concept to begin with.
If you are excited for this game you are basically banking your hype on a giant "?".
I've heard that this Mirror's Edge is going to be a reboot/origin story of some kind, so I wouldn't be the least surprised to find out it's the official name for Mirror's Edge 2.
Certainly a nicer name than something generic like "Mirror's Edge: Origins".
The system follows EU guidelines for consumer rights last I checked. It's not fair to the consumer, both legally and ethically, if Steam don't have this system in place.
Try before you buy has a place on the PC because you might find out your configuration is the one exception (despite being identical on paper to another persons) that doesn't run the game well or at all.
It should be noted that Sony aren't the sole patron involved here. It might not be Sony specifically that needs the show of confidence but whoever the other involved parties are.
Sadly there's too many question marks over how exactly this Kickstarter is working and who is contributing what based on what basis.
