Yeah, Snakes Eyes. She's such a pain. I've defeated Lady Butterfly, but Snake Eyes...

Remind me again that last AAA open world "zombie" game that we had?

You don't know much about gamers then... especially Sony fans.

Yeah when I boot up a game these days, my PS4Pro sounds like a jet engine going into orbit. I'm genuinely afraid that it's going to just explode one day.

A good story doesn't have to be profound at all. The most common stories are love stories, and they are the simplest stories and some of the best. Nothing wrong with simple straight forward stories. However, you get alot of video game stories with forced plot twists and overly obtuse narratives just to artificially lengthen the experince and give you more fetch quests to complete.

But the point is - you have some games that focus primarily on story and less on gameplay,...

***Minor spoilers***

You just wait until you clash swords with General Genichiro Ashina. I beat him in a couple of tries... well I thought I had beaten him... but then he takes his armour off and literally fries me to death. The swordplay is awsesome and the battle forces you to use every skill you've learned to be succesful.

Brilliant article. Event though I think it overlooks many games that have used gameplay to tell great stories. I'm thinking of Bioshocl for example. The way the player was directed, and how that was integral tot eh story. They you also have game sequels like Mass Effect 1-3, that tell an engaging and coherent story over a number of sequels. I know these are few and far between, but they are out there. Also there are a few games where the story telling and narrative is the primary focus, (...

I'm absolutely loving this game. The more I play it the more amazed I am at hoe FROM took the soulsbourne formula and tipped it on it's head. You think you're stuck, and then multiple paths open up. It genius game design. Even the difficulty, is not such a big deal, you just have to set your mind to grind for skill points, and don't rush to confront a boss. I hope Sekiro goes on to sell very well. It certainly deserves to.

If it doesn't have a release date then it's not actually "delayed". CDPR learned from The Witcher 3 which got criticised for its numerous delays.

They've always said with Cyberpunk that it'll release when it's ready. So don't expect a release date unless CDPR knows they'll hit that date.

The camera defiantely needs attention. I found that lone shinobi warrior mini-boss behind Ashina Castle in that small underground corridor. Between his jumping spin kicks, my jump and dodge steps and the game's camera - the whole sequence just becomes practically unplayable.

Exactly this.

Yeah there's noticeable stuttering in Sekiro, hopefully it gets patched. Saying that however, the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Forget reviews man. If you like what you've seen and heard so far, go for it. Enjoy the game without hanging on the word of some randoms on the other side of the world who have different likes and dislike to you, and who are going to spoil most of the game for you anyway. I've never understood that.

Yeah, this is what you get when casual (non)game journalists try to play a From title.

You can easily stealth Jozou for one free death blow. When you approach his area don't activate the friendly samurai, and don't go straight into the courtyard. instead bear far left of the rocks along the edge of the fire and you can go up some steps onto the building. There will be two guards that you can easily take down. You can follow the hallway all the way to the end, and you will be able to stealth a shield bearer. This however will activate the entire squad - including Jozou....

So true.
It reminds me of the first time I played Demon's Souls - that game truly enlightened me. Sekiro is just as unforgiving if not more so, losing half your exp and sen becomes such a pain when you are trying to upgrade your prosthetic arm.

I still haven't bested Lady butterfly, but it was in confronting Lord Gyoubu that it really clicked for me. If you try and avoid him you will get nowhere. When I realised he was easy to read, and was telegraphing all his moves - I defeated him without even resurrecting once.

Don't get me wrong though, I died plenty times when I was trying to just hack and slash at him, but you have to deflect his attacks to get a chance to open him up to a counter attack.

Will it get repetitive though, the gameplay loop doesn't seem that deep at all.

I never thought I would be able to finish the Soulsbourne games... but I eventually did. With Sekiro, man I don't know. It's just brutal, even though I think the swordplay is by far the best in any soulsbourne games, I'm questioning if I'll be skilled enough to get through it.

Quote "Bloodborne/Dark Souls had a reasonable challenge level ..."

I hear alot of people say that, but actually when Dark Souls came out that was not at all what people said. They said the same thing as you're saying now about Sekiro - "this game is unfair to the point that it ruins the fun"

Gamers had to adapt to the SoulsBourne games, and once they did alot more were able to get through it, becaue they realised you can't play...
