I wasn't aware that you've completed the game and played more than just the tutorial/intro + the 45 minute free roam that doesn't have anything to do with the main story.
The game isn't out yet. Judge the story after you've played it, not before.

Cutting out content from the game and releasing it as DLC is dodgy enough, but this sucks even more. Looks like I'll be missing out.

KoA 2 won't be a direct sequel. I wouldn't worry about it. The DLC leads into the MMO, which is set after Reckoning.
