I don't understand people's mindset about a product changing due to a purchase. When Sony buy a new studio nobody starts complaining how their 'features' are going to leak into Naughty Dog games or something, and it's no reason similar would happen for this, Facebook, Google, or any other company. It opens opportunities (such as devs being able to share more information, using the example above), but doesn't mean a merge.
Good old haters knowing absolutely nothing about the game they hate.
The kinect has far more features than simply displaying a video feed...

I didn't pay for gold and I subbed day 1 to ps+, but paying for online is stupid regardless, maybe it's just because I've grown up my entire life with playing online for free on PC. I still find it funny how fanboys made such a big deal over it, then just accepted it (and now defend it) simply because Sony does it.

That is absolutely not true. You seriously think those applications are written in pure X86? A majority of all 'powerful' software runs purely on OpenGL (with GLUT or similar) or DirectX that is written in C/C++ and then compiled (into X86, exactly as games are). Since when have benchmarks or video editing software ever had downloads for every single CPU/GPU?
Paying for online play is what's wrong. PS fans talked shit about 360 for it for years, and it should still be unacceptable now.
I wouldn't say optical drives are really needed anymore. I can't even recall a time within the last 5 years I have used mine, it's cheaper to just buy games online and download them. Even bootable USB drives can be used for installing Windows.

Judging from the last few years of FPS I thought the point was to totally change your game to fit the CoD mechanics to sell as many copies as possible.
I hope they stay true to their roots instead of making a game purely for the sake of money.
