I agree that games should include more taboo things in them. However, I think it will be some time before society as a whole accepts taboo in their games.
As the article said, the industry is trying to get the casual person to buy games. These people are the ones that see games as games, and nothing more.
Also, it took a long time until it was acceptable for movies and TV to include taboo themes in them. Movies have been around since at least the 1920s, and ...
So far, DOA looks like it will be a fun game.
A single console market could be good and bad. It would be nice to have a console that would play every single game that is released.
However, I am worried about a one console world. One thing I worry about is price. No competition does not mean a cheaper price, it means you pay what the manufacturer wants you to pay. The comparison about DVDs and DVD players is not a very good one.
DVDs are cheap to make, but look at the price of movie tickets and concession...
This author is either loaded or delusional. Going all digital will not lower the prices for games, just look at some of the copies on PSN and the Xbox Marketplace.
Another issue is what will happen to some of the more niche title. Sure, could find new copies of AAA releases, but that is because the publisher is willing to ship millions of them. A more niche title, like the Disgaea series, good luck trying to find a reasonably priced new copy 2-5 years after it's release. ...
There was a bath house system were you can bath the girls after the mission to gain health and extra xp. The system seemed complexed, with various soaps and shampoos granted different bonuses for the characters.
The problem is that since the game has a moe art style, the girls look very young. Bathing young girls for more health and xp would equal for the American release would equal trouble for NIS.
Sorry for the long post, and here is a link explaining more...
If you are a fan of JRPGs, well the 360 is not the best choice. Microsoft did experiment with the genre, as most of you guys above stated, but the target 360 demographic just would not buy those games. Also, you can get all but Vandal Hearts and Front Mission over the PSN.
I think it has to do with Sony and not wanting eroge on their systems. And I think this game might be based more on the anime adaptation.
That's the one. Since Makai Wars has been put on hold in 2005, it has been a running gag in the Disgaea universe. I would like to see what would happen if the game actually materialized.
Maybe it is the infamous Makai Wars.
Dino Crisis and Shinobi
I think that Red Dead and L.A. Noire would be better as miniseries instead of movies, but that might just be me.
Always excited to hear about new Nippon Ichi games.
Believe it or not, but I have a friend who would die to get his hands on a collection like this.
Those where the good days, having to play through the arcade mode to unlock everyone. Back then you were forced to learn how to play the game that way.
That $20 price tag for the unlock code really stings.
Maybe if we ask really nicely, Atlus or Xseed may bring Sol Trigger to the U.S. via PSN.
Good list, but I don't get why FF and Lost Odyssey were mentioned.
To keep with the theme of WRPGs that the author had going, for bad story I would say Skyrim due to the fact that it has a bare bones story.
I am stumped at the moment for lack of player choice when it comes to WRPGs though, in my opinion WRPGs are pretty good with giving the player different ways to play.
If it is not a sport or a shoot 'em up, I need a good story to invest my time into.
Maybe Type-0 is not on the list because it is getting localized, hopefully.
