IGN is all over the place. I think all their different reviewers judge games on a different scale. That's why Folklore got a 9, Uncharted 2 got a 9.5, and GTA4 got a 10... all different reviewers judging the game differently.
That's also why they'll pick a GOTY that gets lower scores than other nominees... cause they pick it collectively. That'd be interesting if a site started using wiki-type format where a team colabs on the review, then publishes it.
Doesn't matter, it just means the game isn't for everyone. Halo fans will enjoy it.
I see your point, but you say "you judge the game based on the game itself". Well... at $60, it's being judged as a full retail game, while other games like Shadow Complex are judged as a downloadable game.
Do you really think a game like Noby Noby Boy would have a 75 on metacritic if it was sold as a full $60 retail game?
Honestly, I don't think they understand what it's like to pay $60 for the game and then play it. If someone handed me the game and was like "here you go", I would probably think "hey, the campaign's nice and the firefight mode's fun". But if I had to actually pay $60 for it, that'd be a different story.
Yep, I think this is too low, but all the 9+s are too high, so I guess it balances it out. It seems like 8 is the sweet spot for spinoff Halo games that reviewers are scared to give an honest review of. Actually, if the SP is amazing I think it will be worth an 8... guess I'll have to rent it and find out.

I think IGN bases their graphic score mainly on how pleasing they are to the eye and how well it performs. There's no other explanation as to why ODST only got .5 less than Killzone 2. Halo 3 has a refreshing art style and runs great.
Eh, reviewers review games differently. What's important is what's in the review.
I hope everyone hoping this game gets 9s and 10s realizes they're supporting devs recycling old content into new games. They should've released the ODST version with the old MP for $40-$50 dollars and just the SP campaign and firefight for $30. They could've at least made a separate ODST MP mode where you play as ODSTs instead of spartans.... I mean, the game is the same price as Reach will be (unless they pull an Activision).
But nobody says anything cause Halo fans love getting...
The article says there's a chance most of the GOTY awards could go to PS3 exclusives... not sure why you got so defensive. If you're so happy with your console, why did you immediately go into 'list mode'?
And btw, that list is pretty sad.
It's funny that their last GOTY got a 9.6 while GTA4 and MGS4 both got 10s. It's like they're allowed to be honest for games like Fallout 3, but not overhyped games like GTA4. If they truly thought GTA4 or MGS4 was worthy of a 10, wouldn't they think they were worthy of GOTY as well? I guess I always thought GOTY = best game of the year = highest review score... guess I was wrong.

I agree, but since different people reviewed the games, you can't really compare the two scores. I find it funny that Gears 2 got a 9.5 from IGN but didn't get a GOTY nom, but Left 4 Dead did with a 9.0. I also find it funny that they gave MGS4 and GTA4 a 10 but gave the GOTY to Fallout 3, which got a 9.6. I'm sorry, but if you're going to give a game a 10, have the balls to give it game of the year, as well (unless another game also got a 10).

I don't think anyone as hyped for this as they were for Halo 3 or 2 because those games were new experiences and ODST is an extension of an older one. Halo Reach will probably get everyone hyped up like crazy again.

Probably the exact same way 360 fanboys reacted when ODST got bad reviews.
Played a bit of NG2 on 360, I may have to pick this one up eventually to finish the story and play the co-op missions. Glad it's getting good reviews.
Damn, looks like I'll only have time for this and Uncharted 2 the rest of the year.... maybe Borderlands if I'm lucky.
