I don't think anyone who designed the first Xbox really gets to brag. It was a big ugly black box with the most gargantuan controller ever made.

The PS4 is an engineering marvel compared to any Xbox that has ever come out. It's sleek, beautiful, and extremely space efficient. I don't think there's anyone in the gaming press that hasn't had to admit it's beautifully designed. Didn't Polygon even say they liked it's design.

I...

I think there's still a lot of people out there that haven't gotten over the arrogant PS3 years and big fiasco's like the PSN hack.

But how anyone can overlook that Microsoft had THE single most defective electronic device in the history of electronic devices with the 360 is beyond me. Some people bought no less than SIX Xbox 360s due to RROD's. You can't even buy blind loyalty like that.

When it comes to buying loyalty though, this is a...

I disagree that it "needs a new interface". I love the new interface, it just needs some further logical refinements. For example a way to group items into folders and pin items, maybe even hide items. Take a page from android's playbook. Having an app drawer and a place to pin them works.

Blu ray playback is something that needs serious work. First of all 3d blu ray support. A blu ray remote, possibly get the ps3 blu ray remote working so I don't have...

You know the factory paste that comes on Intel Heatsink fan combos? One time there was a system I worked on that the thermal compound had gotten so hard on that the CPU literally ripped out of the socket and remained stuck to the bottom of the heatsink.

This was an old pentium 4 back in the day. Before they had metal retention mechanisms and pins in the socket rather than on the CPU. It bent a ton of pins on the CPU when it ripped out.

I was able to heat i...

Consider the scope of things. The Xbox 360 sold roughly 400k units over the duration of it's first month. PS3 only 200k. Social media, was also less pervasive.

Social media is at a fever pitch now. And the PS4 instantly flooded the market with 1 million units in a 24 hour period. This is something that has never happened before, in an age where more people than ever are online.

I'm going to be sitting here shaking my head in one weeks time at all...

Gaming blend sounds like it was written by a 13 year old tabloid reporting hopeful.

There was a lot of inflammatory stuff about the Xbox on there leading up to the PS4 launch. And it all sounded extremely unprofessional in it's writing style, like everything on that site.

They just stir the pot in whatever direction gets them clicks and ad dollars in my opinion. Not a great site.

I know what you mean. This whole console launch has been exhausting. I don't know if I can make it through the Xbox launch next week.

It's information overload with all this crap already.

Oh they tried hard to weasel out of that one. I was sure they were going to as well. I was really shocked when they stepped up and offered a 3 year warranty and actually backed their customers.

It's really mind boggling when you think about it, that a device with a 30 to 50% failure rate did as well as it did.

That seriously has to have skewed the sales numbers for the Xbox 360, some people bought 6 consoles over the years.

It could be a 10% rate like the PS3 though and still be normal for a launch console. Which would be 100000 defects.

My guess is it's somewhere between 1 - 10% definitely not .4% just given the number of units involved and the fact that Foxcon was involved I expect higher than usual failure rates at first.

I expect the same for the Xbox but honestly wish them the best of luck. At any rate, 10k to 100k people with problems hitting social media and ragin...

But there is evidence to support his theory. Microsoft's incredibly clumsy handling of the announcement of the Xbox One. It was as if they didn't know what it was all about themselves. Because maybe the marketing team actually didn't know yet.

Microsoft had nothing but vague answers after the fateful TV TV TV press conference where they announced the Xbox One. The entire DRM fiasco with Microsoft having no real answers while Sony, the press, and the gaming pub...

Yep, I'm not even from that far away (Canada) and during the Xbox One reveal I was thinking hmmmm look at all those TV features that will never work in my country and I will never use anyway.

This has been Microsoft in a nutshell. The Zune, actually not a bad MP3 player. Totally crippled if you lived outside the US.

The Surface. Outdated pricing hikes and less variety of models available at launch in Canada.

Everything Microsoft does l...

Wasn't there also a rumor that the OS uses 4gb? I don't think anyone but developers and Sony know, and I'm sure that it's NDA'ed out the ass.

Shuhei Yoshida talked about holding back resources as headroom for OS development and added features. And honestly I'm fine with that, as long as the majority goes to games.

I just cannot see the PS4 using as much resources as the Xbox though, that thing has a LOT of stuff going on in the backg...

I think for the most part the problem is people just want to avoid talking to other people. It's an entire text generation. I'm the same way, I avoid phone calls and prefer text messages.

Game forums are also useful I find. even though they tend to be really negative, cause people mostly go on the forum to bitch about what they don't like. But it can be good for pointing out any major flaws.

Most reviewers aren't even good gamers. Or even someone you would think of as a gamer most of the time. Conan's Clueless gamer is funny because it's probably on just about as good as some of the real reviewers out there.

I can't even get it to stay in my ear. I wish my wireless ps3 headset would work with the ps4.

I'd be more inclined to say the failure rate for the Xbox and the PS4 on launch consoles will both be at least 10%. Just going by the last generation, and the sheer number they are both having to ready.

Both Sony and MS are saying this is more preorders than either of them have had for a console.

Mines been fine, and I love the PS4 but I'm going to be realistic here. I knew I was rolling the dice buying a launch console. Reason being I know there was a massive push to ready as many of these as possible, as fast as possible, and at a Foxconn facility.

Remember the article about some Chinese university forcing their students to work at Foxconn for credits assembling PS4's?

All those defective iPhones that happen at launch are also a direct res...

After what EA said I predict there will be a new firmware very fast. Looks like a stability / freezing issue since hard resetting has been mentioned to recover from the situation.

Sony probably has their software engineers strapped to their desks for the foreseeable future as a rule anyway.

What's the world coming to when EA is actually putting out one of the better launch games.

I think I just saw Satan run by my window with a winter coat on.

I've been playing it at presumably 900p and it looks great. Definitely could use more anti-aliasing though so I'm greatly looking forward to this patch. Only place I've found it nagging is with a lot of ships when you look at the rigging and it's a bit jaggy.

So, so much better than last gen games though. I was playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption just before launch. Man I can't wait for Red Dead 2 now. I don't miss the vaseline covered jaggyness ...
