The difference between Steam and the console manufacturers is that Steam is run by the community. Only on Steam are gamers the gatekeepers of what game can come to Steam and what game does not belong on Steam through Steamgreenlight. Steam allows gamers to publish, edit, advertise games through early access. Steam sales the software to make games which in return the new game developer buys the software he/she needs to make a game from Steam then he/she can put their game on steamgreenlight. ...

Agreed, the only game Valve both published and develop was Half Life. What Valve did was publish Half Life mods and help the modders to turn their mod into a commercial game.

Counter Strike
Team Fortress

Those two games were Half Life mods plus Portal was a student proyect.

In the sense that it allows gamers to buy their games from any digital store and install their game onto Steam. Able to create your own gaming library not dictated by a corporation. It allows modders to mod their games despite buying say game from Steam. Is it perfect hell no. Early Access needs major fixing, their refund program sucks, not as many crazy sales as before. Compared to what console manufacturers are doing (upgradeable consoles aka pay $400.00 for overclock PS4 Pro, pay to play ...

You are ok with buying overclock consoles. The PS4 Pro was not built from the ground up to prevent manufacturing costs from going up plus to keep labor costs down. Overclocking the PS4 is cheaper more efficient than building it from the ground up; henceforth, the small gains. How is that for corporate loyalty?

Agreed, that is what the PS4 Pro really is about; however, it was.marketed as a huge improvement over the OG PS4 with 4K resolution capability .

Steam has already replaced Microsoft.

What does Microsoft bring to gaming?

3330d ago 5 agree2 disagreeView comment

Agreed. For one there is no gaming company that caters to kids or brings a Disney like charm to gaming besides Nintendo. There is no gaming company that brings interesting cinematic and sometimes very bold exclusives like Sony.

They are doing that with Windows Live and they are doing it very poorly. Microsoft has completely forgotten what appeals PC gamers meaning it treats PC gamers as if they were console gamers:

No mod support
Lack of game options
Lack of game sales

Barely got game refunds which works the same way as steam.....

Not really, for one no console gamer will buy a $700.00 console. Google, Apple, hey maybe Amazon can take Microsoft spot for gaming. Steam is killing it for it has forced console manufacturers to push for digital distribution, digital sales, DLC, mod support; it forced Microsoft to bring early access to its xbox ecosystem plus to try again with Windows Live service. Even if Microsoft leaves gaming, Steam and Nintendo (the forgotten console manufacturer) are bringing competition towards Sony. ...

Don't you mean the original Xbox were Halo 2 was the shit. Yes I did play Halo 2. The system that brought knights of the old republic, conkers bad fur day. The 360 was a red ring of death piece of junk. That it had a few exclusives its first two years after that it was pure multiplatform games that landed on PC or PS3. I still remember how 360 fanboys claimed that exclusive games did not matter. Worse, it was the generation that every game was gray and brown, and the death of game variet...

Microsoft is already thinking ahead with Xbox gamepass which will render console hardware useless. Microsoft doesn't need a console but it badly needs a good gaming service. Funny no mention on how much Steam has inspired Microsoft gaming division from DLC 😥, online gaming, Windows Live refund system equal to Steam; both Microsoft and Steam offer early access......

Underrated horror games and only two of them were truly underrated i.e. Deadly Premonition and the first one they mention. No mention of Enola, Among the Sleep, Monstroum, or even DreadOut. I get it consoles are seriously lacking survival horror games but do not discredit PC survival horror games.

Is going to happen. It may start that way but in 2025 after the success of Xbox Gamepass replacing console hardware altogether gamers will finally see the next step to able to stream games directly from their tv sets. The first step is already in:

Bring all Xbox One exclusive games to PC. Cross play capability between Xbox and PC.

Bringing PS Now to PC.

Able to use PS Now for PS4 games

The second step:

So Xbox One games exclusives and indies on PC is a fantasy. PS Now on PC is a fantasy. Xbox game pass doesn't exist. WoW! Sony and Microsoft no longer need console hardware; henceforth, xbox gamepass PS Now. Sony and Microsoft can easily hype their digital services by telling gamers is the next revolution. It has worked before:

At one time console gamers stated that they will not pay to play online because it went against their principle. Console gamers caved.

Nope, console hardware is done and buried. There is nothing left for console hardware to offer that the mighty smartphone/pc offer. Even smart tvs with quad core processors make console hardware outdated. Embrace the digital future. Just like gamers saw PC games go from boxes to digital the same will happen to consoles. Xbox game pass and PS Now will replace console hardware in 2020 whether people like it or not
