Well, it's not called the same you know. The original is called Final Fantasy VII, this game is called Final Fantasy VII Remake. The name is different. As I said above, the game isn't about the battle system, but about all the other aspects it is loved for. So it's still the same game, your sight is just too narrowed down to turn based system to see it.
And yes, having to click through menus while the character stays still and without any attempt to defend himsel...
What's the point in making exactly the same game if you already have exactly the same game?
With such realistic graphics turn-based doesn't hold up. Having menus in battle breaks the immersion. What's the point of having a menu if you can link commands directly to face buttons?

Because the game isn't about the battle system, it's about the customization (materia), the characters, the world, the story, the lore and it's importance for the time when it came out. It's so much more than just the battle system.
If you only like it because of the battle system, why are you so fond of it? There's hundreds of other games with turn based battle systems.

There's a reason all turn based games are either crap, shovelware or on handhelds - turn based isn't AAA material. Y don't you just realize it. Instead of writing BS write an example of a good turn based system with a good presentation. Persona is one of the best games with turn based battle system out there, it didn't manage to even sell over 1 million copies.

You can't logic with them. Their vision is so narrowed down to turn based. You can make the best game with the deepest battle system ever, if it's not turn based they'll call it button mashing. Like he did for Type-0, go try button mashing in that game you won't survive 5 mins, you got 14 different play styles, enemies specifically weak to types of magic elements, statuses, weapon types and so forth, but nah, it's not turn based. It's people like kalkano here that make me call them mentally challenged. Turn based isn't really that strategic. It's easy comparing it to chess cause in both games people line up to perform their task, but other than that, turn based is rather easy. The materia system- now that's where you needed thinking and trial and error, but the materia system is not the battle system. It could work with any other battle system as well.

If you're too stuck up in you world of turn based games then it's your loss. If you're open minded and rational (in other words a mentally healthy human being) you will give the game a try and judge after that. I used to be the same stuck up person like kalkano...
I think people don't realize how big of a change it will go through. If we're judging it by the trailer it looks damn realistic.

I think a lot will change. From what I understood from the interviews, they're not really considering what fans want (which would be dumb anyways as the fanbase is divided into 100s of groups), but they are doing the FF 7 they wanted to do back then, but couldn't because of weak hardware.
And I support that idea, whatever change happens, I'll give it a try. This is a re-envision of the game. Who wants the old stuff can play the old stuff.

Yeah, after X, both XII and XIII had versions of the ATB battle system, which was used in VII, VIII and IX. XIII changed the ATB system but XII was more or less the same. You had gambits but you still could control all characters. The reason they weren't well received wasn't because of the battle system.
