That list for GOTY nominees is not good. IMO GOTY should have gone to COD4. It was by far the most engrossing game I played all year and even though the SP is short the RPG elements added to the mulitplayer gave me a total package feel. Lots of replay value. Add that they perfected the game on both systems and I think it's clear that it should have won.
The exclusives are going to be awesome and the mulitplats are shunning away from being good on the 360 and shafty on the PS3. I have two PS3's so I'll be getting the multiplats on that (except GTA, the exclusive content is gonna get me...), but the list of exclusives that both companies are putting up are going to be good. Alan Wake should be good, Ninja Gaiden should be awesome and I need to try Too Human. 360 should have a good year next year and so should Sony. I've said this so many t...
I think what he was saying is that he realized that it 'only' offers the toy aspect. W/ the 360/PS3 you get high-def gaming plus hi-def movies (optional on the 360) plus a media hub to stream anything from your computer, not to mention the ability to install Linux on the PS3 or surf the web using the PSN browser and do lots of other things the Wii can't. And while the Wii is fun it isn't, and never was supposed to be, any of those things and it wasn't until he got it and used it that he rea...
I picked up my 32" LCD at tigerdirect.com for $599 and my 65" DLP for $1599. This tech isn't gonna be worth it for quite a few more years.
I remember in RE2 how you could get bonuses and better scores by not saving. When I first got it I didn't have a memory card, so when I died I had to start over. When I actually beat it I felt like I accomplished something.
Bioshock is awesome on my Vaio...
Seriously guys, this was a great year for GAMES, and not just 360 games. IMO GOTY should go to COD4 for sure as the best total package for both systems. W/ games like Halo, COD, AC, Bioshock, Uncharted, Ratchet, UT, and Mass Effect gamers everywhere were overwhelmed w/ top tier titles. The only game I've thoroughly played through is Halo and w/ so many great titles to play and finish I should be busy until GTA IV is released. PS360 FTW!
COD4 was great, SP was short, but it made up for it w/ a killer muliplayer that plays more like an RPG than a FPS. Uncharted is no doubt awesome, but COD4 was more of a total package game. TBH I think it was the best game to come out on both systems last year.
You have obviously never played High Velocity Bowling, because that game is fun and uses the motion controls well. Have you even played a PS3 game that utilizes the motion controls or are you just spouting nonsense because your console doesn't have it?
I would give it a higher 8, around 8.5 as the game is good, but it has been done before. I agree that it will change as time goes on, but as it stands right now the game doesn't deserve higher than a 9.
As far as gears, the SP in gears is way better, but the MP in UT kills gears. They aren't even the same type of game, so to compare them is stupid, they are both good and worth the $$$.
And whether or not you like it there are not nearly that many HD-DVD players in the US. If we're talking ww HD-DVD doesn't stand a chance compared to the install base of HD-DVD. Pushing blu onto the PS3 hurt it at first w/ the high prices, but it may end up not only helping blu win the war, but could also be the deciding factor for the PS3 to get it to the mainstream market.
28k total for a really good game sucks. This shouldn't be a discussion about why they are doing similar on both systems, but why they are doing similarily bad on both systems. This game is excellent, yet those numbers are terrible. Who cares if they got it on the 360 or the PS3, the game is the same on both systems and is absolutely excellent. What this really shows is that the market in Japan is vastly different than the US market and even the EU market.
How do you figure? What is going to get the 360 to the 'mainstream market' in 2008? Also, what do you mean by 'mainstream market'?
If they would go forward w/ this it would probably be like the PSEye. Some games use it, most don't.
Quoting above software sales were as follows
360 - 3,756,473
ps3 - 2,096,683
Which means that w/ half the userbase the PS3 actually had a higher attach rate, which means PS3 owners bought 'more' games per PS3 than 360 owners. Plus this is in the PS3's worst market and the 360's best.
COMPETITION IS GOOD FOR EVERYONE
If the PS3 catches up in HW than it will be strictly software to try to get me to buy a game. This means that ...
Whether or not it becomes mainstream before 7-10 years from now is anyones guess, and you are very presumptuous to know what the market will be like in 2014. Fact of the matter is that HDTV sales are rising NOW while SDTV sales are crumbling. W/ a new HDTV 'most' people want to utilize the new features for the new TV, ie actual HD content. You can do this via cable or via a HD player and HD movie. Fact is that most people are turning to blu ray for this. It doesn't matter that DVD's sell...
65" and for the $$$ I couldn't have gotten anything over a 50-55" plasma or a 42-50" LCD. Also, the picture quality is amazing watching 300 in 1080p and most people that walk in say it looks better than a plasma. One friend says my 32" LCD looks better, but I honestly think that for the size my DLP TV has just as good of a picture.
That devs are working w/ new hardware again. Costs for the first PS2 games were also very high w/ marginal gain at best. However, as development improved over time, costs went down and higher profits were made. W/ the first (and second) generation games of these consoles already created the development costs have to go down w/ sequels and new IP's using a similar or the same engine.
"Sequel is not a dirty word providing there is enough innovation to warrant it"
Halo 3 and innovative do not come to mind. Not saying it isn't a good game, but even at the H3 forums they call it Halo 2.5, or what Halo 2 should have been. Sony isn't doing anything different than its competitors which is to release games they think will sell, and well known franchises sell; GTA, MGS, Halo, FF... All known sellers. Plus w/ every good sequel there is a brand new IP, fo...
Any new action movie is worth it to buy in your HD format of choice (ie 300 or Apocolypto). I just read that 50% of consumers are planning on purchasing an HDTV in the next 12 mos. If this is true as more HDTV's are in homes it will become a bigger and bigger deal to get true HD Movies. VHS's were around many years after the DVD was introduced despite the extra features and better quality. One of the things that pushed it faster: The PS2. The same will happen now and the PS3 is pushing b...
The games are selling well on both systems. I'm not suprised about UT3 as I haven't seen a single advertisement for that. Uncharted numbers are disappointing, but I picked that up last week to add to my collection of unfinished games. IMO there has been a huge influx of good games and consumers can't keep up. I just bought UT3 and Uncharted last week and still haven't finished COD4, AC and Ninja Gaiden. It's hard to get time to play all the games I have and many people I know w/ a PS3 do...
