This is incredible. The economic news that seems to come everyday is negative. I hear about layoffs everyday and the videogame industry is flying high. It's great to see videogames have become such a mainstream hobby. I only believe this trend will continue to get better as consoles get more and more affordable and accepted by the public...
I think this is just the beginning of the media onslaught towards HOME... Features like this well do a better job of attracting mainstream media attention over games.
The shots are scanned out of a magazine. I hope they have something better in the next few weeks. This may be the game I am most looking forward to. Uncharted was one of the very few games I could play for several hours straight.
Don't expect the full show... Just enough of a teaser to have you salivating over it. There is no reason to get people very excited when this game is still at least a year away...
The question is how many casual gamers will actually want a PS3 in the future with this? I think HOME is the future. Right now it is still the beginning. I do have high expectations...
There is a reason it has taken SONY nearly two years to get this up and running. A lot is involved with contracts, content, and servers. This will obviously take a lot of money when you could have over a million on the HOME servers...
and I have yet to spend more than an hour in it. The games get a little dull and running around gets boring. It's not as much what the BETA hasn't offered but what the full version will... Can you imagine in the future SONY/BMG artists making appearances to promote their new songs. Or how about Columbia pictures having actors promoting their movies. The same goes for video games. Designers can even take questions about their games and let people give input. That is what I really look f...
As compared to other consoles which force you to accept their system. You can use HOME or not use it... Choice is what matters most. Everyone won't use it but I guarantee plenty of people will. SONY made the right move with HOME and in the long run it will really pay off...
Will care... Millions who have myspace and other social networking websites will care... Eventually as word spreads and people learn about how great the social network is. People will be able to personalize their HOME spaces with personalized pictures and other objects. I do think HOME will have a great effect on the gaming and social networking world of the next several years. This is just the beginning.
Kotaku can take great news and try to make it negative... The people who have been making jokes about HOME for over a year won't have much to say. Who cares if there are advertisements. I love the extras and that will make HOME stand out. Advertisers will see how popular this becomes and want to advertise their products. People have a choice with HOME. They can either use it or ignore it all together. That's not something you can do with t.v. So I have no problem with seeing added con...
Realistically for anyone using their console as a multimedia hub then I am sure 60 or 80 gigs is not going to last long. Also gamers having the option to install games can quickly take up space. I had a 40 gig and had to upgrade to a 160 in less than a year. I can only imagine this would be the same for 360 users who end up having to pay for a Microsoft only hard drive.
It was just announced Motorstorm 2 hit one million. Which makes this game very profitable. Add in Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet both hitting at least that number and I am sure SONY is happy looking at the bottom line. EA on the other hand has released a slew of games that have floundered.
Is not large. When is 5% a big number??? Generally many of the companies that have cut back have made cuts of 20 to 50%. Now that is big. This is just another story of the hundreds that have come thru in regards to job cuts.
SONY's best territory is Europe. They are outpacing the 360 over there. So I hardly understand what you are trying to say... Also please do some research because SONY as of right now is not cutting the gaming division. Videogames are profitable... The areas that get affected by economic downturn are PC's and Televisions which are both high end and generally more expensive that what a lot of the competition offers...
Probably nothing... Because despite the PS3 losing on the consoles produced they are still making a profit. The PSN is a massive profit center and is an incredible revenue maker for this generation. Along with continued success of the PS2 and PSP I don't think SONY will hurt it's shining light. If you look at game sales they have been continuing to rise which shows that the game market is still a safe bet in this harsh economy. I think SONY will probably refocus some of it's efforts and i...
For any gamer. There is really something for everyone and there are several games that weren't even mentioned. Killzone 2 to start off the year is a great kick off. Hopefully we will see Gran Turismo 5 as that would add the cherry on top for me.
At least number 9 and 10. Motorstorm is a great game and much better than the original. I don't understand what this writer was thinking. Civ. Rev. was also a great game. I can't really comment on the other games but I think GTAIV deserves the top spot on that list. Haze was terrible but I think many got the feeling that was the case months before it released considering the low sales.
Some were trying to act as though this game was dead considering you don't see it talked about much. To me it is a much better than the original which I loved. The graphics, gameplay, and overall fun factor is much more improved. This is just more proof that PS3 games do well over the long run and not just in a few weeks.
As some of you may be implying. SONY is obviously a very large company. The 16k is obviously a lot of people but it may actually be a relatively small percentage of the companies work force. Hopefully this won't effect their gaming division too much since that's their bread and butter.
to complain about. Selling that well at a base $400 price is pretty impressive. SONY took a calculated risk by not dropping the price for the holiday season and they can still see light at the end of the tunnel. We will see what their strategy is come this time next year.
