On that note, anyone else going to PAX East? I can't wait!!
Read the article, broheim. Second paragraph.
Thanks.
Awesome, thanks for providing such great feedback. I almost went with the 5770, but I ended up opting for the 5830 primarily because of the memory interface / stream processors.
I do like your 460 link, though. I'll keep it in mind for the next one.
Thanks!
Apparently -- according to this article -- there IS room for sensationalism in games journalism.
Not already posted. This one was from Durham.
The video card is the most expensive component in the build and is also relatively recent (as far as budget gamers go).
You could bump yourself to a 5870 if you like, which would add - depending on manufacturer and holiday sales - somewhere in the ballpark of $60-$80.
I agree - very few games are pushing the 'graphics envelope' at the moment. 2011 looks promising for graphics-intensive games, though (a la TES V).
We built this computer and tested it prior to posting the build. The rig runs SC2 flawlessly - comparably, SC2 does not match up against other games graphically, so there is little surprise that it can run it at a full 2048x1152 (higher than 1080i, if there is such a thing).
SC2 benchmarked a minimum of 30FPS on eight player free for alls, had a 57FPS average, and had a maximum of 82FPS. Believe me, it runs StarCraft 2.
Read the entire article. The bottom of it discusses CPU upgrades.
Thanks.
Stupid title. Really, the "game-changing" cheats changed everything? Is that so?
Nice name, clearly a fitting one :)
This PC will play just about anything you throw at it with high/medium-high settings (high being best, or as some games call it, 'ultra'). Based on previous systems we've built, it will easily last a few years in the gaming world. It's possible to upgrade with more RAM or a better CPU, although not necessary.
Yep, one of our other articles explains how it is all broken down:

Why was this approved? It is horribly written.
Awesome comments so far. I'd have to agree that (for me) music and sound do a lot of the effect. The atmosphere (as above) also has a huge impact on play, though. The 'jump' scares make you feel like a fool, but the constantly dark environs are what count.
Glad to hear you liked it :) Hopefully it gets approved.
This article is so incredibly immature I don't even know where to start. The graphics used are not at all professional, the writing is a mockery, and all-in-all, it is the exact summary of what N4G has become: bullshit.
Yep. Most of us in the office have several discs laying around - thanks for helping to clear it up :) Pretty much how we decided to go about listing only the basics. Glad someone understands ;)
@Charmers, see my comment above. This build is 'the box + what's inside of it'
To all those commenting below: We have 2 categories of builds - "Starter Gaming Builds", including monitors, keyboards, mice, and operating systems; and "Upgrade Builds", which are strictly 'the box, and what's inside it'
Thoughts? As much as the GTS250 is normally one of those cards you could skip right past, the MSI version is pretty nice... especially with those fans. Considering the budget, I think the system will play just about anything at mid-max settings (depending on the game, obviously).
What do you guys think?
