We did both - I admit, I'm a Sith fan. The guy that did the other build loves Jedi -- it shall be an epic duel!
We also did a $717 variant for those with some extra cash, themed as a Jedi build. The $430 build uses components that fit the 'Sith' theme.
Read the list of mods. It uses 4k and 2k texture packs as well.
Edit.: We just added a few more screenshots with texture comparisons, if that's what you were more worried about than FXAA lighting.
It also has 4096x4096 and 2048x2048 textures rather than 512x512 textures. Just sayin'
Contrast and bloom can be easily modified by selecting a different preset than I did with the FXAA Post-Process Injector mod. I chose Preset 4 and used a high-contrast setting as it works better with my 3D gaming setup. For those who'd like lower-contrast but to maintain the high-texture resolution, that's easily done by changing a few toggles :)
In comparison to what? The modded version? Nothing like it. The native version? It'll come close -- Skyrim is not natively very stressing on systems.
Edit.: We're not even sure if the Wii will get the game. I don't think it will.
The lighting and shading effects that these mods produced are phenomenal. I guess the only reason Bethesda didn't put more focus in things like this was because they wanted universal functionality, but the mods certainly make it insanely good looking ;)
Wrong link. Fixed ;)
I love this colorful dragons mod so much... in addition to what was covered in the article above, you guys might enjoy checking out some of those armor texture enhancement mods as well!
I'm mostly a PC gamer, so I don't know a whole lot about PS3 games -- I do have to say though, Canary has some great suggestions in there. I think the 'buy more for less' approach with indie games is a great idea if you don't have a burning desire to play triple-A games immediately!
Thanks! I'll keep posting them every Saturday (if I stay alive) :)
See my comment below regarding this statement.
The first thing to note is that you can't replace your laptop's video card (technically speaking, you could, but it's not something I'd advise you to try). The card listed is for desktops.
That said, it all depends on your economic situation. There's a point of diminishing returns on the more expensive cards, and for that reason I'd almost always suggest investing around $200-$300 in a video card and no more (the performance to cost gain ratio is minim...
Good note - yeah, the 6850 is quite a nice card. I only opted for the 550 Ti in this case because of the combo deal. The performance boost is fantastic for those that can afford a few extra bucks, but for people pressed for cash, it's not enough to notice immediately.
Read the article, moron. There are multiple issues - crashing was not addressed herein, rather, hangs (what you called 'black') are addressed.
First of all, you didn't even mention what kind of specs are on that. Secondly, "without an OS" -- yeah, that's kind of a big reason why.
Quote from the article:
"The Heroes of Might & Magic series (now, for some inexplicable reason, rebranded the Might & Magic: Heroes series) has always confused me for one very minor reason: the only people I know who've played it without me introducing them to it are women."
That's incredibly sexist.
$0. That's how much I'd pay.
Hey, you asked.
This is theft. You should be ashamed and sued.
This has 8GB of easily OC'd memory (up to 1600MHz), a 6850 (easily unlocked to a 6870), and an X3 proc (potentially unlockable).
Even if you did not do any of these tweaks, it will still easily play Battlefield 3 on high settings (which is unarguably the most stressing big title out there, right now).
It does play it all. That's why.
