Failure.
Well deserved failure.
ARM will never take over desktop processors. It's designed to be a single process microprocessor. No advanced anything, just low poer and good performance. That's what it does. It's stupidity to even compare them to something like an AMD desktop CPU.
ETA: But yeah, I do assembly language programming at least an hour a day, sometimes up to 12 hours a day. And saying modern computers have the absolute worst instruction sets ever is not stretching it. Man, are they t...
You need some cooler friends, then.
Brings us back to attahcment rate. 360+PS3 games owned many more games per customer, so Nintendo really didn't do much compared to them, even with 30 million more sales in consoles.
Yeah, but it'd still more than likely have an attachment rate (aka game sales) as terrible as the Wii.
To reply post:
Modern processors have so much crap in them (Out of order execution, Branch prediction) that it's dumb to just call it a in order processor. The way the PS3 works is arrays and it uses DMA to speed up said processes with special pipelining that has just never been used to execute commands. It's honestly not new now, but it's hard to emulate unless you have 10x faster computers as that DMA speed will never be achieved with anything but the specified ...
Because it's the equivelent of a 360/PS3. So therefor, nobody cares about what it has at it's already out of date and irrelevant.
If that was true, Sony would only have 4GB of GDDR5 RAM in the PS4. Competition is good, and apparently Sony cares about the next Xbox. Everyone should.
Step into the 21st century of web browsing and install adblock! And use a good browser like Chrome. Chromium (Chrome-Google thingies), or even Firefox!
If the prices go up, the sales will go down....it's just if they will still make enough sales to make it worth it.
Thankfully not, because they're not going to raise the price.
Agreed. People saying they can't change the hardware easily...well at this point, they can easily. Early games don't push the API's to the limits. And UPGRADING hardware means you can push it further by default. Just upate the hardware, libs, and then send the new API to the devs to test/work with with updated guides to how it works with the hardware. It's not that bad right now. But will they? I don't think so. I can see 8GB of DDR3 being used. But still, it's easy to...
The Cell is garbage for game calculations. It was designed for a server, and should have been able to give gaming an advantage in theory, but in practice, it never showed. Ever. The Cell was a failure. Failure for Sony, the programmers, everyone.
They're a good hacker group trying to move to making a full game. That's a BIG step, and this is bound to happen. I'm okay with this, just pluck through and get it done guys. Then fry bigger chickens when you can, later.
DDR3 RAM might cost $40, GDD5 definitely costs more than that! If you can get it. You have to rip it off current gen GPU's. It's not even available for CPU use. No PC can use it, because they're not equipped.
Dasteru:
When you place an order for 1 Million sticks of GDDR5 RAM, it gets kinda cheap.
And also, it's 8GB of GDDR RAM for CPU. GPU side is not said, but more than likely 2GB GDDR5, like the ATI HD7850. So that's 10GB TOTAL, if it's not shared RAM. If it's shared...I dunno how I'll feel....they better be able to make the cache hit rate pretty high with it!
Only thing that looks bad to me is the sticks. That little ridge would have be digging my thumbs in there the whole time if I had that controller...plus, I bet it's annoying to lay your thunk on top of. If it isn't broke, Sony...
Love how everything disagreed with me, but are praising a super-flawed way of recognizing what games they own. Games can't be numbered because they're made with physical dies. So if you put in a game and can stream it, who would be dumb enough to buy a game instead of renting/borrowing another copy instead? Use your head, N4G averages.
Can't believe people are dubbing this "amazing". This won't be free! They should support the games you already own, if they want to make it amazing. Make it use PS3 disks and run them on the hardware, just like CECHA PS3's did with PS2. Otherwise, streaming is just a meh feature...heck, it's a service because you'll have to pay, NOT a "feature".
I have a 360 and not a PS3, but still, I have to point out for the sake of being honest and unbiased...how can it be when it doesn't play Blu-Ray?
Why the hell burn a $4 disc when you can burn a $0.50 disc? Especially 10 at a time!
