Would she be if Squenix hadn't marketed the crap out of her?
In Japan popularity is round down to the flavour of the month, the next FF leading lady will be just as popular...
(EDIT)
So, I guess from having lived in Japan and having conversed with many people there about FF-IIIX, Lighting Returns and Lightning being undeservingly popular, I still wouldn't know any better than you?
Maybe you need to accept that your opinion is ...
It would be funny if that wasn't so true...
Lightning Returns better be a damn good game because Square Enix desperately need a return to form for Final Fantasy.
@Abriael
Personally, I don't think an MMORPG they had to rebuild from the ground up because of how awful the original build was, counts a return to form.
I blame many western videogame journalist for giving Japanese games low scores, either purely because they don't enjoy Japanese style games or for simply being prejudiced to eastern devs.
The industry is very western oriented now, not at all like it was in the past. Japanese games tend to get over looked a lot due to huge western AAA franchises being in your face all the time, so naturally Japanes devs try and attempt to replicate the success of western companies.
Did you actually read the blog?
I'm not calling Naughty Dog by listing them amongst Activision, EA and Ubisoft. I'm simply noting that they have found success in the west like the others, although honestly Naughty Dog deserves that success a lot more than Activision.
I honestly don't think Capcoms learnt anything other than how to be even more tight fisted.
Resident Evil 6 was an attempt to please everyone, and as any reasonably intelligent person knows, trying to please everyone is the road to ruin.
The next Rezi game will probably even be more action orientate than the previous games.
Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to Deep Down, but Capcom has let us down so many times over the years that it's gotten harder to have faith in any of their up and coming projects.
Capcom needs a huge hit right now, but that's not going to happen by aimlessly riding the coattails of past success, or by replicating the success of others without fully understanding why a product is appealing to consumers to begin with.
Also Deep Down ...
Agreed, to me I always figured a Dino Crisis 4 would be coming at some point, since the current Resident Evils more fast paced and action focused style would suit it incredibly well, the fact that capcom hasn't gotten around to it yet is a huge missed opportunity IMO.
That's funny, I've seen the download prompt elsewhere but never on N4G.
Anyway thanks for the heads up.
Not to mention Onimusha Warlords, Rival Schools, Mega Man and Mega man X, so much wasted potential... It's sad really :/
Yeah it sure has. Not sure if that's due to Kojima having trouble with the enemy AI being too unpredictable.
But anyway, it's Metal Gear so it's bound to be interesting :)
Nice! can't wait to see the new gameplay footage.
As someone who's done exactly what you're doing, I wish all the best and hope you succeed.
Indie games are as good as any other and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Heck, maybe more so now since most of mainstream gaming is void of innovation and originality these days.
Of course, what else could I mean ;)
At least it's dog petting, and not the other kind...
I enjoyed your blog.
And I agree, we need more visual novel games in the west.
I haven't played Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward myself yet so I'm not the best person to ask for a comparison of the two (I'm still busy with it's predecessor 9 days 9 hours 9 doors) But from what I have seen of Zero Escape, I'd say that Danganronpa is definitely similar but has much that sets it apart.
Thanks for commenting! :)
@devwan
It's doubtful, there are already many ways to decrease their bloated budget but publishers still don't seem interested in reducing development costs. At least in regards to triple-A games.
I've covered all this in one of my previous blogs, but basically the high cost for development exist because the industry demands cutting edge entertainment but at the detriment of innovation, originality and cost efficiency. And sadly it looks like ther...
^ Well said, bubble up.
Because the industry is greed driven and money hungry, if publishers see a way they can charge us more in the future you can be damn sure they will.
Heck if it weren't for them nickel and dimming us with DCL already they probably would have put their prices up by now.
Thanks!
A mobile game? well shit -_-
