Some wall paints look good...The right surface really makes a difference.
I also have a 1080p projector & two other 1080 displays (one 10 days old)
You may have just seen bad examples shown on a wall, not on a screen or reflective screen paint, with a poor lumen-rating for the room lighting or distance to the display surface.
Compared directly to other displays, which are both larger than average, mid-to-higher quality units themselves the projector has what I can only describe as 'silky-smooth' flawless color shading, perfect response times...
