I bet if MS would release a new Forza Horizon, set in Japan, with lots of pop-culture nods and tie-ins, perhaps some Initial D story-mode DLC, and some other cool new additions (so much possibilities and potential TBH), they’d have an absolute system-seller, especially for that region/country.
Please don’t. (The latest) Mortal Kombat is fantastic but it’s already dark and bleak enough for me, in terms of world- & character design. Instead, I would rather see these devs focus on ‘beauty’ instead (think those gorgeous Wuxia movies, like Hero, House of Flying Daggers, etc), so gorgeous colorful locations, in nature (waterfalls, breeze woods, lots of birds, lakes, mountains, etc), and beautiful fighters in pretty clothes …
Best racing game last gen, for me, was the excellent Driveclub, without a single doubt. Flawed launch perhaps, but they more than made up for that.
Dirt 2 GOTY (the base-game was a bit too empty, but the GOTY is packed with content) also deserves a mention, for fans of the genre.
If they’re smart, they hire the team that did the (good/great) PES games, invest in the FIFA license which is now up for grabs, and they’d have the best football game, exclusive to their systems.
@Zeek
The DLC has actually been THE reason why I never picked up the game (same for Kakarot). They seem like great games, but unless there’s a complete release, I won’t be buying/playing them.
“I wish the core gameplay featured more elements, too, such as power-ups or a boost system.”
I’m actually very very happy the game DOESN’T have power-ups and/or boosts. I like that it’s a purely skill-based affair.
Weren’t the new-gen players complaining that there were too many empty spaces on the bigger maps and traversal took too long and was boring, so they were choosing to play on the smaller 64 player maps instead … ?
I think EA is right to reject this kind of nonsense though. Paying a ridiculous amount of money just to be able to use the FIFA name is kinda useless.
So if I never connect online while playing, the experience will be great?Oh, that’s perfectly fine and acceptable then… (!).
Here’s how I see it. They made an amazing game, which has been scoring terrific games, and they probably would have gotten my 60 bucks by now, and they and I would have both been satisfied with it all.
Instead, they decided to include some small and quick nickel & dime thingy, where certain moves are locked away behind their tin...
If Elden Ring has Japanese voices included, I’ll get it.
It was mentioned during launch (by some reviews and players) that certain skills/skill-trees were only available to you to use if you had the Special Edition or DLC or something.
Nobody says you can’t finish the game without buying DLC, but locking out basic gameplay options from the base-game exclusive to DLC or a Special Edition seems like a big no-no.
This kind of ridiculously overpriced DLC only makes me hesitant to pick up the base-game at all. Certain skills being locked behind some DLC doesn’t help either.
I guess I’ll have to wait and hope some day they’ll release a ‘complete edition’.
Nice to see Ranger X on the list. Nice little game, took a bit taking used to with its controls.
Would have liked to have seen the great Tiny Toons Adventures mentioned. One of the best platformers of the 16 bit era.
The article is insinuating/stating that those who bought 3D All-Stars only did so because it was a timed limited release. Perhaps that’s a bad reason to buy a game. Maybe you should just buy games to play & enjoy them, not as ‘an investment’ because you believe it will be worth a lot after 10-20 years. If new gamers get to enjoy Mario 64 because of Switch Online, that seems like a good thing.
That’s great news, but he’ll have to make sure these devs will have the creative freedom to make the games THEY want to make, instead of MS telling them what they SHOULD be making in order to ‘appeal to an international audience’, which is sadly what happened with Scalebound.
Also, it would be nice if Phil made sure the original audio is always included as an option, in-game, regardless of territory of release.
I don’t think it looks as great and realistic as Driveclub Bikes. There’s a 1080p clip of that game on youtube, in the rain (similar conditions as the video here, bit more stormy), and the raindroplets/effects are just more imoressive, as is the general track/level design. Again, IMO.
That game was so far ahead of its time, TBH.
I’d like the game, and gameplay, to be set up a bit like Ninja Gaiden Black (or Splinter Cell Blacklist, or Hitman, etc etc), so individual locations you visit through the story. That means you could have it start off in the snowy cold scenery of Canada or Northern USA states, before the story takes Logan to locations like Madripoor and Japan, both places where the character has a lot of history, with their own villains and friends for Logan to battle or team-up with.

The announcement (actually, there was already a trailer out for the game back in 2019) looked absolutely amazing, so good that many doubt it’s in-game footage, and the city they showed looks gorgeous and lots of fun to traverse around. The prospect of a SP ‘Pokemon’ type of game in that world is very exciting.
I really enjoyed the game on Dreamcast.
A lot less when it was later re-released on newer systems, because I believe all characters were already unlocked instead of you playing to unlock them. The SP experience on those re-releases was just ‘less’ than the Dreamcast version, which was a bit disappointing.
Would love a proper HD remake/remaster, if given the care & love it deserves (instead of a quick cash-grab with a mediocre port).
It’s not, it’s fun. Yeah, it’s Far Cry, so huge open world and you go in there and conquer it, but how good/bad it is simply depends on execution, so if the location is cool or not, if the story & characters are interesting, if the gameplay is fun, if the graphics are gorgeous, etc.
I know what to expect from a Far Cry game, so if the setting appeals and everything else is done well, I know I’ll have fun with it.
