As fun as it would have been to play the Witcher with a better, more action-oriented combat system, I'm much happier that we're getting a whole new game (Witcher II) instead.
Most of the innovative, impressive (western) games tend to be coming out of Europe, though Canadian developers aren't doing half bad, either. In general, I think it's just that the gaming industries in Japan and the United States have become too big, too profit-driven, to really be able to think outside the box, or bring much of anything new to the table.
Conversely, there are developers in Japan and the United States that are pushing the boundaries. Games like Fl0wer...
GTA4 is hardly the "perfect" game so many people make it out to be. It had a number of issues--the two biggest ones, vehicle controls and the relationship system, simply won't be a part of RDR by virtue of the setting. That, alone, makes it the superior game--assuming all else is equal.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !
I don't see the decision to stop developing PC games there, or the decision to start selling DLC. Or the decision to kill off the sci-fi-sim genre, or the decision to kill to rts genre. Nor do I see any of Sony's decisions over the past few years, which have been nearly universally bad.
Persona really hasn't been around long enough to be comparable to Final Fantasy. Really, only Dragon Quest has.
And to be fair, there are only 4 Persona games. Not enough variety, really, to tell in the grand scheme of things.
@rwarner174:
The problem with the left? Really? Are you trying to apply there aren't just as many ignorant, stupid twats on the right?
...that there's at least one politician out there who knows what he's talking about.
Of course, I'd say the greatest offender is the Internet in general. Obama's criticisms apply much more to the big I than gaming.
Nier is a fantastic game... but it looks like ass. Here's hoping the DLC makes the protagonist look less stupid, even if it doesn't change those wacky jump animations.
It'd be nice if we actually got a good DBZ game. Like, that PS3 Naruto game's cel-shading, with Budokai 3 or Budokai Tenkaichi 3's gameplay and rosters.
Raging Blast was decent and all, but compared to the PS2 games, left a lot to be desired.
Heavy Rain? Great story? Really?
Yikes. Gamers have some seriously low standards when it comes to writing. Shame no one remembers the handful of games that actually were well-written... Legacy of Kain, Freespace 2... hell, even this gen, there are plenty of games that outclass Heavy Rain--Yakuza 3, Nier, Valkyria.
Well, here's hoping Alan Wake is better. Shame the PC version was canceled, again, though. Haven't really played a horror game I liked sin...
Gotta say, I think I'd prefer a fully "new" game. MC aside, that'd mean no-Aigis.
Still, as long as it's on PS3, I'd have no problem. It's been far too long a wait for a current-gen SMT game.
I remember when games used to come with cool stuff right in the box.
And then you could only get the cool stuff if you pre-ordered.
And now, you only get random in-game BS for pre-ordering.
Yikes.
Heavy Rain was deeply flawed.
It was a game with very dull gameplay.
It was a movie with very bad writing.
It was interactive fiction with too few choices/consequences.
It's essentially nothing but hype. Only really worth praising/defending at this point if you're a diehard fanboy.
All those characters are twits. This generation has had ZERO badass characters. A badass character is someone like Kain, from the Legacy of Kain series. Not these lame, poorly-written dopes.
I haven't even seen a floppy in at least a decade.
I tried the crack. It doesn't work.
Still required an internet connection, and got a white screen crash w/ animus.
They are. NIS America is publishing Atelier Rorona in the United States sometime this year. Rumored release is summer--July.
It would be cool if LA followed the light-side ending, and had... whatever that guy was called take over Luke's role in the trilogy.
Not an issue? Really? No big deal? Really?
I've got 380GB free, so I don't care, personally... but mandatory installs are an issue. Being able to install a game is all fine and dandy, but players should be given the CHOICE.
