...Seems to me like they only concerned themselves with the simplest criticisms to fix.

The biggest complaint I've heard (and one that I, too, hold) is that the combat system is awful. The lack of a levelling system is awful. Yet these two horrid design choices are being kept for the sequel.

Yet, strangely, I don't recall ANYONE ever complaining about there being too much of an emphasis on the narrative. SE really... missed the point.

Yeah, these "shooter of the week" games sure do depreciate fast.

It would be silly for them to make shooters. They don't have the experience, or the no-how, and there's too much competition. Western shooters can barely make an impact over here because there's too much competition.

Last 10 years?

I haven't read a funny PC comic in at least the last 4.

Heavy Rain has its fanboys, but most (experienced) gamers are able to admit that for a game focusing on narrative, the writing left a LOT to be desired.

And keep in mind that most of the hype was flat-out wrong. It was touted as being unique and innovative by young gamers and young game journalists who were willfully ignorant of gaming history, failing to realize that in the past there was a lot more variety to games than variations of "shooting stuff."

Sales would surge more if the 3DS had more unique titles. These ports give it a better library, but do nothing to increase the uniqueness of the library.

Conversely, Nintendo could (once again) increase sales by ignoring core gamers and focus more on the 3D and augmented reality stuff. I inadvertently convinced a number of people to buy 3DS' after showing 'em the AR games. Casual gamers think stuff like that is REALLY cool.

>Healthy Gaming

Oxymoron. Gaming can be unhealthy, but it can't be healthy.

This article is basically, "how to lead a healthy lifestyle when not playing games."

Also known as "don't play games for 8 hours each day."

I think you mean, "idiot fanboys with anuses for mouths."

I'm at the point where I don't really care about the Wii U. No matter how good it is, I won't buy one simply because of the obscene number of peripherals that will be REQUIRED. A giant ipad controller, wiimotes, various corded controllers... it'll be a mess. Not to mention that Ninty is once again screwing up b/c.

...While I enjoy my Wii and DS and the games for each console, I can't think of a single thing Nintendo has done where I've thought, "Gee, that was a really good idea."

Oddly enough, I can think of dozens of instances where I've thought, "Gee, Nintendo is really fucking stupid" in the last week alone.

If I could play Zelda on my PS3, I'd be done with them forever.

All of the big 3 have proven to be rather thick-headed, with very little understanding of, you know, the whole "gaming industry" thing they're a part of.

Nintendo far more so than most. They are incapable of making the kinds of no-brainer decisions most thinking beings would expect.

Ooh! I know this one!

1. Animation
2. Model design
3. Environmental effects
4. Script-writing
5. Voice acting
6. Stability
7. GUI
8. Spell effects
9. Fetch-quests
10. NPCs

...Is that really a challenge for any gamer? It's a Bethesda game--it's going to have tons of things that suck. This is a GIVEN. The simple fact of the matter is that we're all going to play the hell out of...

...Funny, when I saw Avatar I noticed a great many complaints about the glasses.

Anyway, @charmer:

I've been saying this for a while now... but 3D screens, as they exist today, will NEVER be anything more than a passing fad. These 3D TVs? Just a gimmick. The 3DS? Just a gimmick.

Why?

They don't present genuine 3-dimensional images--they only give the /illusion/ of 3D.

The cost is simply too high (not ...

I don't get the point of trailers for these types of games.

What do we really glean from them?

It's a Zelda game. We already know EXACTLY what the gameplay will be like, aside from M+ implementation (which a video can't tell us, anyhow).

We already know what the story will be (because it's always the same on). Zelda narratives are so sparse, I would think most fans would prefer to be left in the dark.

So I gue...

lol @ the reasoning you guys have.

Clearly, if I call a shit game shit, it must mean I'm either a fanboy for another game, or I don't own the game.

And either way, I'm going WAY out of my way to spend 30 seconds clicking a link and composing a brief comment.

guys... if you can't take the criticism, get off the Internet. And stay the hell away from N4G. Far better games are frequently subjected to far more vitriol than I am cap...

To be a bit more specific, it's not necessarily that there's too much shovelware (PS2 and DS manage well with a whole lot) it's the fact that you have all of this shovelware on one hand... and then you have Nintendo's marketing campaigns focuses solely at new-gamers (the only people buying the shovelware in the first place).

And then in north America, you have the whole "there are good games for core gamers out there, but we don't want to sell them to...

...Because fanservice is all it takes for people to look past that whole, "super shitty game that is still completely worthless after countless patches" thing.

And apologists... please don't bother with that whole, "It's a lot better than it was! You can actually play it now!" argument. No one is fooled by the whole, "this shit stinks less now than it did when it was first excreted" argument.

...I think it was mostly the oversaturation of shovelware.
The countless overpriced peripherals.
The lack of a hard drive.
Friend codes.
Lack of user IDs (all purchases console-locked).
Oversaturation of shovelware
Obnoxious marketing campaigns aimed SOLELY at introducing new gamers to the medium (a good thing, by iteslf, but kind of assinine when it looked like the Wii was ignored Core Gamers entirely).

And in the case of NoA, ...

Disagree because you're missing a verb, which makes your post completely and utterly meaningless.

On the topic of the PS Vita, my thoughts are as follows:

1. Making handheld games more like console games is a bad thing, in the long run. If gamers have the choice between playing 2 versions of the game, one tiny handheld version, or a larger, better looking console version... they're going to opt for consoles. (Of course, one could argue that the 3DS fu...

...Wow. I guess most of you are Nintendo fanboys?

I honestly can't see any other explanation for the lack of outrage at this, let alone the cheerful embrace of it all.

This is not a good thing.

The only reason no one cared about the Wii not being b/c with older games was because N64 and SNES titles all used very different media. GCN and Wii both used disk-based media, so b/c was a no-brainer (even if Nintnedo DID manage to screw it up a b...

...You really need to find some better sites to follow, and stop fixating on the mainstream sites. A good review for a good game doesn't make places like IGN or 1UP any more reliable today than they were yesterday.
