I'm not sure I can be as hopeful about the 3DS' SMT/Persona games as that. I have a feeling the Persona game will likely be a port of P3P, or a spin-off, and I'm certain the SMT game will be another spin-off, like Devil Survivor.

Or, hell, it could be "Devil Surivor 2 Overclocked."

Maybe so, but I'm still waiting to hear about Vita Gundam, Macross, Project Diva, Person and Ys games.

I'm not a stockholder, so I don't really care.

Take a look at the Vita.

You can download 100% of Vita games. You can (ostensibly) purchase 100% of Vita games, too.

But that's not everything, is it?

All PSP titles will be digital-only.
All PS1 titles will be digital-only.
All minis titles will be digital-only.

And you're perfectly right, what consumers want dictate the future. And the thing is... most consumers want digital distribution! That's ...

No. Nintendo gave up on core gamers a long time ago.

Their core audience is comprised of casuals too ignorant to know better, and blind fanboys.

5427d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

It may not disappear, but it's certainly going away.

Take a look at Sony, for example.

The amount of titles that can ONLY be obtained digitally is steadily increasing. Whereas the amount of titles that can only be obtained physically is decreasing.

Hell, the Playstation Vita will always have more digital games than physical games, simply because Sony has decided to put ~every~ Vita game on the PSN.

Digital Distribution is...

People thought $250 was a good price for the Vita because that was the same cost as the 3DS. Nintendo DOMINATES the handheld market, so pricing the consoles equally better allows Sony to compete, and to move in on Nintendo's domination of the market.

Look at the PSP. Just like the Vita, everyone thought it would beat the hell out of Nintendo's cheaper, weaker handheld. Everyone said, "yeah, it's a lot more expensive--but it's worth it." Because, you ...

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one here who remembers what the PSP and PS3 hype was like in the months before they launched, and what the reality ended up being.

*sigh*

I guess we could even add the 3DS to that list.

You are correct in saying that neither the Vita nor the 3DS appeal to casual gamers. You are correct in saying that casual gamers would be far more attracted to cheaper, more widespread devices like iPods, iPads, and mobile phones.

However, it's important to note that handheld gaming consoles have NEVER been very appealing to casual gamers. The only handheld console to do so was the Nintendo DS, and--like the Wii--Nintendo's appeal to casual gamers paid off big time. ...

While I understand your sentiment, I'm forced to disagree. I think you're opinion is more of a reaction to the (many) gamers who see a games aesthetics as the end-all-be-all factor determining the quality of a title.

In reality, "graphics," are very important to the game--both the visual aesthetic (art style) and the mechanical tools used to render it (lighting effects, textures animations, etc.) This element of a "game" is not as important as the ...

Sony respects gamers?

I wouldn't go that far. But, considering that the competition has even LESS respect for their core audience than Sony, I can see how some people could get that impression.

...Owning porn isn't illegal.

Well, unless it's really, really nasty shit.

Probably.

I would be excited... if there was a decent library of HD PS2 games out there. Seriously, the HD Classics series sucks. Way, way, way too many games missing.

I would care... if I cared about any of the free games.

I guess I won't be able to give them away, either. That stinks.

What's with that inconsistent image resolution?

...

Anyway, I came here hoping to see more of the OS. Hoping to see something I'd missed in the previous screenshots: something to turn things around.

Godammit Sony.

I wanted to love the Vita. I really did. But if you're going to force me to use that OS, I'm not buying it. I'd buy a PSP Go first.

Please, God, let them include some sort of alt...

It was a pretty glaring ommission for Shogun 2, alone. I mean, this is a game set in the same space of time when, in reality, Hashiba built a fortress in the middle of the battle just to make the enemy go, "Oh, shit!" and piss themselves (Ichiya Castle).

Yet in the game, all we can really do is move units.

The Total War series started out as a hugely innovative set of games... but is just stagnant, lately. We've been getting more and more of the...

I thought Kratos was the villain in God of War? He was certainly the most insufferable character, who most needed to be chopped into a fine bloody paste.

I've never said the XMB was perfect--in fact, I agree with all of the flaws you mentioned. But the 2-dimensional interface kept every clean and uncluttered, and made it very easy for ANYONE to navigate (even grandparents--I know). The ability to completely customize the aesthetics was also present--change icons, sound effects, etc. Plus custom background themes, wallpaper themes, etc. It could do a lot.

Remember back in the first few years of the Playstation 3, when there...

Ah, Europa Universalis. Many a good strategy game has been ruined by godawful GUI.

Gotta love an article for praising Shogun 2. Definitely a good game. But I would argue that it's not really doing "more" with less, simply because the basic mechanics of strategy we're left to play with are less than or equal to that of the genre's "mean." Which is to say, it's sorely limited in options. Obviously, there's a LOT lacking in terms of diplom...

"Handheld Gamers" and "Console Gamers" are part of the SAME demographic--gamers! The only split in the gamer demographic is between core and casuals, and let's face it, neither the PS3 or Vita have much to appeal to casual gamers.

And the people complaining about Sony's handheld costing more than the console? They have a VALID POINT. The simple fact of the matter is (as we have seen with the launches of the 3DS, PSP, Wii and PS3) hardware is pretty...
