Deus Ex Machina is the proper name for the title, meaning "god from machine" referencing the enhancements and cybernetics that are put into game.
It's also a play on the phrase meaning any inferior plot device that expeditiously solves the conflict of a narrative (literary meaning), which was the original design for the story in the original deus ex. For the case of the game it was making the player a god, which with regards to Ars Poetica is never to be done.

Right now Sony, MS and nintendo all have to work harder on thier games to maximize sales of their consoles. They're not only competing for sales on their home system vs multi-platform games, they're the driving force in selling more consoles and more of their games.
First developers wouldn't have the need to compete as the console maker would already stagger the releases of the biggest games to get the most sales.

Other RTS games, and specifically the ones you mentioned are also great PC rts games first and foremost. Halo wars has the challenge of being the first console FPS designed for the console to be great.
It's job is to popularize the rts on consoles as much as it is to be first, and so far it looks to be doing the job well.
Different strokes for different folks. Without even getting into the games saturation and competetion aspect of why this is a bad idea, you begin to get a problem with the type of gamer who would buy this new console.

I enjoyed blinx quite a lot, at the time the concept was novel and well done, the record and fastforward feature were well done but the game was very difficult, specially with regards to the economy and the enemies and camera. I love challenging games, and ones that make you think.

the rush isn't to create a genre, it's to popularize it. For Example:
-Many games have editable terrains and maps, LBP isn't a first at that, but whether or not they can popularize the gameplay into a thriving genre is another thing.
-goldeneye wasn't the first console FPS, marathon and aliens both came first.
I think that these MMOFPS games can work, but so far everyone has used the wrong context and game design about doing them.

the game does features battles of 100 v 100 (i bet including ai) however the hubs which house well over that with regards of the players.
The battles themselves are a bit harder to explain, I believe (don't quote me on this) it's about 120 players however at any point during these battles the 3rd alien race may attack and both teams are required to attack those.
However the game does feature RPG elements which does take time to balance out.

-FF has been different every time, no matter the sequel.
-Banjo Kazooie N&B will have a completely different campaign/story/gameplay even with the same characters.

Also, perfect dark has some forest scenes that are more impressive then haze and uncharted, but this is stuff that you'd probably never know considering you'd actually need to play the games to find out...
they are studio's that are contracted to develop for a system for specific IP's but are not owned by a specific company and forced to make games.
Insomniac is second party because sony contracts them to make resistance(sony owns the IP mind you) for the ps3, however if insomniac wanted to they could make games for the 360.

I would love to see rare make a new fps IP or action adventure IP. Perfect dark suffered having an engine designed to run on the original xbox, but it still looked quite good, and I'm sure with the added time they have a great engine.
I think that a developer that sits in it's niche for too long begins to get lazy and I really can't wait to see something new from rare that isn't an action adventure game.
