I think you vastly over-estimate the mass-market's awareness of MGS.
MGS is hopefully going to be a big-game for the fans, but I believe you're being informed that I am correct based on Sony's plan to make a MGS4 bundle.
Sony bundling the game is a way for them to A) use MGS's strengh (its not exactly "worthless", it does have some awareness and appeal) but B) Keep Konami happy by making sure the sales are big (ie: every PS3 sold will also be a MGS4 sol...

Personally, I think the reflexive anti-MSFT bias gives more people, more liberty.
Everything MSFT does -- for some small and vocal minority -- is just routinely savaged. We see that here with Xbox 360.
Funny, i said that after my 2nd PS2 died. My 3rd PS2 is now broken in the closet too.
Why? Because gamers go where the games are. And, the Xbox 360 is DOMINATING the industry in sales and quality.

There were some minor, temporary troubles at Xmass, but that was because they had MANY hundreds of thousands of people pound the sign-up subsystem.
I saw zero problem, and I was able to sign-up my nephew's new Gold account without issue during the period of trouble.
