"Everything being in one place"
Apparently you dont want everything in one place. Where do you keep your media? On your console or on your PC?
Storing movies, pics and music on your console in the living room is silly. It prevents you from making it available to the whole home. Its better to keep your media on the PC and access it over the network on every device in the home.
I have zero media files on my console, its all on a Vista ...
Neat, if you've never checked out popfly, you should. It lets you build widgets and embed them anywhere you like.
It's pretty damn sweet.
The current list of movies is the better than its competitor -- so, while not perfect, it is "the best" in the market.
And, if you want more, well, that's the point of the story.
You can get Netflix on your Xbox 360 right now.
You have a computer right -- why clutter the Xbox 360 UI for nothing?
I prefer the current add-it-yourself modular approach and Windows Media Center as opposed to adding more blades.

THIS IS AN NDP INDUSTRY REPORT. Not opinion (Cnet or othrewise).
Sheesh, the market is saying "meh" to BluRay. Face it.
Did you even read the article?
He's telling you that the results of the BR in the new year. Player sales have fallen 40%. This is data, not opinion... well, except for yours..
@2.2
You cannot read BluRay discs in your existing DVD players.
You can read HD-DVD discs in your existing DVD players.
That issue alone makes BluRay "less thought out" -- unless of course you're in the business of selling BluRay players.
These people are reporting based on the industry reports. I'm sorry if you dont like reality. This isnt "opinion", its the cold hard facts: The Market doesnt care about bluray, and most consumers cant even tell the difference.
Show them upscaled DVDs on a proper TV, and they arent going to start buying Bluray discs and throw out their hundreds of millions of DVD players.
Bluray is doomed.
Sony has tried to shove crap media formats into the market place for its entire history.
BluRay is going to be stillborn, Digital Distribution is already killing it.
Yes, America is only the largest game market.

The good thing about the Xbox 360 is that you can use all kinds of competing and different Digital Distribution vendors via Windows Media ...
Extinction? Earth to this idiot (and the others in this forum).
19M Xbox 360 owners think you're foolish.
"levels, and and the PS3 userbase grows"
At the current rates, the PS3 will never exceed the Xbox 360 user-base. What does Valve really loose then?

That is exactly what Carmack has said, the development tools and environment are very poor compared to MSFT.
When Ballmer says "Developers Developers Developers" I guess you people didnt understand; that to enable DEVELOPERS and treat them like customers is the way to success.

" the team making ghostbusters claimed they could've done more had they been ps3 exclusive"
No, the CEO of the company said that. Second, Ghostbusters is owned by SONY.
Take his "insight" with a grain of salt, he's probably repeating something fed him by Sony.
I do the same thing. I've got a machine that acts as the media server, this way, we can listen to music in the yard via the laptop (connected to the stereo out there).
An Xbox 360 Elite in the basement for gaming/movies etc. And another Pro upstairs for media and gaming.
Putting your media (movies/music/pictures) on the console itself is a terrible solution.
We use Windows Media Center, and no one has any issues, it works excellently.
Its good to see wired.com is trying to help out PS3 GTAIV users after all the freezing issues the PS3 is having with GTAIV.
"I was a die hard 360 fan but due to MS letting us down with crap hardware and the too little, too late attitude they have in actually fixing the friggin console, "
Thats absolute garbage and you know it. When MS realized they had a problem, they manned-up to it, and took care of its customers.
Everyone gets a free repair, everyone gets an extended warranty. And, MS has undertaken a great deal of redesign for the purpose of fixing the heat issue.
...Except maybe all the freezing issues the PS3 is having with GTAIV.
