PS1 domination lead to the PS2 era which is perhaps the best era in gaming.

What is even more amazing is that games in Scandinavia are notoriously very expensive because of the taxes they pay from what I heard.

Underrated means it was rated lower that it should have.
Basically what happened it didn't sell well as it should which is different from being underrated.
It under-preformed commercially. That's it.
More people didn't take notice of how good it is because it is not on the console with twice the current gen userbase Duh!!
Some take aways
1. 3rd parties are very very important
2. Halo is in decline commercially
3. New IP's still have a hard time competing.
4. Reviews don't matter that much compare to advertising in terms of sales. Looking at witcher 3.
1. This is NDP. In NA there is about 1.5 million lead for the PS4.
2. Halo is MS biggest game comparable to GT for Sony.
If GT7 released and not chart in the top 10 then that would be pretty bad.

Fact that Sony have not release new iterations of some of their popular IP's does prove that they could potentially stop greenlighting more uncharted in the future.
Colony wars, LOD, Syphon filter, Jak, gateway etc. The list is quite long.

The important factors when it comes to release of a new console depends on
1. The gamers
2. Publishers
These are the two big market forces that in a way are interdependent.
If publishers continue to publish great experiences and gamers keep buying them then the need for next gen gets moves back.
MS or Nin can release their new consoles as early as they want but if publishers and gamers are not ready yet to let go of ...
