The PS2 didn't have a unified "network" in the way the PS3/4 do. FFXI had you load the play online launcher and from there the game connected to the servers. It's why FFXI on the 360 got away with connecting to the same servers.

Yeah, a higher resolution especially when we're talking about 720p to 2160p is a huge difference. Why spend the money remaking the whole game when a resolution bump is enough? Wouldn't spending that money on other things be better?
To be fair, why wouldn't you want the potential to put your Witcher 2 disk into a new console and have it run better on the new hardware? Why wouldn't you want past purchases to come forward on the new hardware? This is nothing but a positive move, no matter what side of the divide you're on.
Performance is NOT an X and Y thing. GPU have a huge influence on performance, but it's not the only dictator for frame rate and resolution especially in an online game.

Generally, the "cartoon" games benefit the most from higher resolution. It's definitely a bit reductive to say only one type of visual style benefits from a higher resolution.
Then again I'm not 13, downplaying a consoles ability to render more pixels vs its competition.

I think it's an install base that buys more games, it's a bit weird to say they care more about this type of content when it's a open world rpg. That and the PS4 ate so much of the Xbox's market that you'd be delusional to think a large portion of the PS4 install base wasn't 360 owners especially in 2015.
