No, I think it's just to re-enforce that they will keep downloadable content coming as long as the game is being played online by gamers - just as Halo2 still gets some despite being a few years old now.
Yeh Halo3 definitely managed to boost the numbers, but remember it also boosted hardware sales which will in turn lead to more software sales from new users.
I think MS have a better reason to drop the console price to drive hardware sales than it's competitors - because the software attachment rate is so high that taking a slight hit on hardware is easier to make back elsewhere.
I've had a brief look through some scores to compare and I can't see it - can someone show explain to me how Gamespot is biased against the PS3 (aside from this reviewer)?
If it's known that it's biased then there must be clear evidence of this somewhere.

All this talk of 'boycott Gamespot because it is biased against PS3' is just nonsense. This is one review that is the opinion of one reviewer - if you look at the top 5 rated PS3 titles on MetaCritic, aside from Ratchet and Clank, Gamespot mostly rate them the same (or higher) than the industry average.

I'm confused, is only the PS3 version delayed or the 360 as well? Why would a magazine be sent 'final' code to base their review from if they still have improvements to make? A magazine review is set in stone (in print) so any further improvements would be made too late to change the review.

Maybe the online play (I think only DMC had some sort of online out of those 4) adds a lot to the score because it adds literally hundreds of hours to your play time, also making it excellent value for money. Playing Halo3 online...
