Hhehhhahah, burns you up that your PS3 is at risk doesnt it. Want to talk about foolish? How about you buying into a DRM laden nightmware from Sony RIAA and Sony MPAA divisions. Talk about F-O-O-L-I-S-H.
What a lot of the BR camp dont realize is that Computers are going to have HD-DVD players, not BR players.
Next year, Toshiba and HP are going to start to put them in Computers, and make them available as options on every machine.
Then, EVERY PC with a HD-DVD burner/reader will be able to play HD-DVDs in your living room with Windows Media Center Extender.
THAT is the secret weapon in this format war.
I cant agree more. DLC FTW.
The media companies have an incentive to do it this way: A) Cut out the middle man, increase profit and B) reduce costs (no disc pressing), increase profit.
They are *racing* to this DL world.
I think the author may have overlooked Banjo-Kazooie 3.
It was shown in 06, it should be getting near finished for 08 (assuming a kinda standard 2-3 yrs per game...)
Games? For the Xbox 360? In 2008?
NO! WAY! I heard from all the PS3 fansboys on N4G that there werent games for Xbox 360 in 2008!
This cant be accurate. No way man... no way..
What planet do you live on? The two machines are roughly equally powered.
The GPU in the Xbox 360 has an edge, the CPU in the PS3 has an edge. No serious hardware analysis has said anything other than that.
Here is what IGN's hardware shoot-out said:
"CONCLUSION: When you break down the numbers, Xbox 360 has provably more performance than PS3. Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising and under delivering on technical perfo...
Sony RIAA and Sony MPAA division for teh loss son.
The rest of the world knows better than to get suckered by a Sony DRM format. That is their 100% interest here.
"this just shows that when the ps3 comes down to at least 300 bucks"
@hotshot
I want you to RETHINK that statement. M'kay. I'll wait. Go ahead... Ok. Did you find the smallest problem with your situation?
The prices today:
Wii 250
Arcade 280
Pro 350
Elite 450
PS3-40 400
PS3-80 500
See that order? It will *NEVER* change. Each company has chosen its price point, and they have n...
There are problems with doing this. The game developer looses big resources if he allows this to happen.
One solution discussed is to Pause the game, cache it to disc, load the media player, then restore the game from disc to memory... as you can imagine, this will be somewhat 'sluggish'.
the memory and CPU reservation issues are said to be a major problem with this...
a primer on the situation:
Screenshots look TERRIFIC. Totally awesome, now I know why every forum seems so excited about this game, it looks fantastic. The gameplay is unique and interesting, lets hope they execute on this.
I cant wait to see more and play the demo. Another terrific exclusive for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.
If someone would remake X-Com I would be the happiest person on earth. I played the heck out of that game. I loved the tactical nature.
Band of Bugs on Xbox LIVE Arcade has that kind of tactical turn-based feel; I bought it after playing the demo. It is much fun:

What?
"I got all my stuff centralized on TVersity and can copy streams over to the PS3 FROM the PS3 without even touching my PC or memory card whatever. And yes it's useful especially if you have a large back catalog of say tv shows you want to watch on your tv."
Have you *ANY* idea how elegant this behaviour is with the Xbox 360?
You can simply mount a share. Watch file accross network.
You can attach a USB d...
What are you two talking about? The Xbox 360 plays DivX today. Full Stop.
Sony's announcment doenst change anything. The only thing it changes is PS3s will sometime in the future match Xbox 360's CURRENT feature.
This whole board is filled with Sony fans without a brain in their heads. WTF does PS3 having DivX in the future have to do with Xbox 360 having DivX playback _TODAY_?
Nothing. This is a non story.
You mean like HDMI on every model?
Not necessary for 98% of the market, also not necessary for HD gaming.
Next gen HD player in every model?
Proprietary Sony RIAA / Sony MPAA DRM fiesta you mean? No thanks. The AV market knows better than to get into bed with Sony formats. Sony is NOTORIOUS for locking down its customers with non-interoptive schemes.. BR is just another DRM play from Sony. I'll take HD-DVD any day, thanks.
HDD in every model?

The Xbox 360 has better non-game features.
And, the PS3 has the same hardware capactiy (w/r/t games) as the Xbox 360, but MS is a software company.
Perhaps you've missed all the features that the Xbox 360 is doing *today* that the PS3 isnt even close?
Friends/Community/Live/Messen ger: Xbox 360
Marketplace/Arcade: Xbox 360
Media Playback / Windows Media Center Extender / IPTV: Xbox 360
In these three spheres, Xbox 360 i...
This article is silly for two reasons:
1) Certification dont mean jack, the Xbox 360 plays back every DivX I've tried -- and I've played plenty.
and, the bigger reason:
2) Who believes that Developers even *want* DivX compressed cutscenes? In case you didnt know, DivX is only "popular" because it is free, Video Compression codecs from plenty of other places (like _Microsoft_ and Apple for instance) are better quality, but they are not gratis.

Another month of Xbox 360 driving the industry. Whodathunk it?
"there is already much talk about devs being lazy or uneducated when developing PS3 versions of multiplat games"
Huh? There isnt any talk in educated or serious discussion. Here, on N4G, a mythology has developed that fits your notion, but I've not seen anything to justify it.
In the real world, development kits shipped at the same time. Developers have said that the PS3 is a poor design for games. And, MS has been lauded for their tools and develop...
I cant agree more. Bubbles for you.
All year, we've heard, "wait until Lair", "wait until till Folklore", "wait until XYZ". Over and over.
Reality: Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 all year. Xbox 360 titles have outsold PS3 tiles all year. And just as MS has said, the the total spending on Xbox 360 (titles, DLC, hardware, etc) is more than half of the whole worldwide industry.
No one in their right mind can pretend that th...
