You know what's crazy, if they re-released Everything or Nothing for today's consoles half the game would be spaced out in episodic DLC or it would have a ton of disc-locked DLC.

I agree about all the cool unlocks and trophies, gave gamers a great reason to go back and play the game.

I was little opposite of you about Nightfire's single-player, it didn't really do it for me...especially that end sequence in space, it seemed really Moonraker-i...

To be honest, Goldeneye was only good when it released. It doesn't hold up well at all.

Nightfire had awesome multiplayer modes but the single-player was quite bland. I thought Nightfire was the perfect evolution of the MP that started in Goldeneye, though.

And 007 Everything or Nothing was just like the pinnacle of everything Bond. To me it was the perfect Bond game combining everything that worked and left out everything that didn't. It was extreme...

I don't think Reggie could have said it better himself.

lol, it's nice that the crappy 007 Legends has everyone instead recommending 007 Everything or Nothing, Golden Eye and Blood Stone.

So what you're saying is, we've all been trolled by Kotaku?

Oh well, it's just another day in the whimsical fairyland of Video Game Journalism, where nothing is as it should be.

Yeah this was mind-blowing stuff (not really) but wow.

The stuff about the DLC and shipping stuff overseas...

I find it funny how he mentions they spend as little as $300k on games and up to the maximum budget of an AAA title...wtf is that? The average AAA low-ends at $10 million and middles out at about $25 million. So what's the top-end?

Rockstar spent $100 million on GTA 4 but that was because of their brand new RAGE Engine and they&...

A little late to the party, but welcomed regardless.

Also, RE6 defenders can no longer defend so many low scores, lol.

You're absolutely right, there were text-based RPGs like the original Zork that dealt with consequence and mature narrative as well. Although, I admit, that going back far enough to count text adventures is basically the equivalent of talking about the maturity of books back in the day versus stuff like Twilight, so I'm not going to go there.

Anyway, you're right that there were some 8-bit games that still tried to "go there" and some lesser known titles...

Not sure why people are disagreeing with you but it's true.

Look at a game like Saints Row: The Third, that game is several steps backward from Saints Row 2, it has a really, really, REALLY dumb-downed story that doesn't make a lick of sense. The content is so far removed from skill-based gameplay that the only time you'll actually find yourself in trouble or challenged is because you're taking on an entire army of enemies.

Just take the new X...

And they're going to think that those games are complex and contain a lot of depth, too.

Meh, terrible article is terrible.

Games are dumbed down both in narrative and in gameplay.

Anachronox runs complete circles around any RPG today in terms of character versatility and depth. Omikron has yet to meet an equal and I don't even think a game has attempted to try to tell a story the way that game did.

How about Shenmue? Our equivalent in this day and age would be Heavy Rain but we can all agree that Heavy Rain may deal with &q...

It was good but it was a downgrade from Everything or Nothing.

They replaced the fighting with QTEs and the driving/vehicle segments were far less inspired.

The multiplayer was better but there was never anyone to play with and they removed the co-op...absolutely the worst thing they could have done.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm checking it out right now.

Capcom should have taken hints for Resident Evil 6.

This game looks amazing. I love how they actually brought an entire real-life, cultural art-style to life. Absolutely brilliant.

The thing that really gets to me is how big pubs are always like "Uh, graphics are too expensive so we can't make anything like that."

It's not until after games hit Minecraft/Journey/Limbo sales status that they start taking notice.

Look no further than XCOM.

I love you Firaxis, I love XCOM, but that is a huuuuuuuuuuge step backward from the complexity of the original X-Com.

It's okay, you can defend it all you want, yes the new XCOM is a good game, but let's not beat around the bush: It's dumbed down.

Mobile and tablet games are thriving? Really? I see a lot of trash mobile titles making big bucks and thousands of devs trying to cash in like some sort of lottery, but I certainly don't see it thriving as if it's a viable solution for guaranteed profits.

I noticed something about mobile/social gaming: You either have enough market muscle to FORCE people to recognize and play your game (i.e., EA and Zynga) or you luck up because a bunch of people stumbled onto your pr...

Totally.

For instance, if you put your base on a small island in the ocean it made it a lot more difficult for aliens to attack or invade your base. But you risked being in an isolated location and it made scanning for ships on the mainland harder.

Mainland bases provided much more tactical coverage but you were easy pickings for a Muton battleship.

Dang, I miss that game...I may have to reinstall it soon.

Dude, I'm old-school and I liked the old games because I played with a lot of guys. It was jut how I played.

I don't even like the new skill system that much, it just isn't that fun to me. Plus, never running out of ammo means I can just have a dude auto-fire the entire match with no consequence.

But back to the squad sizes...in the old X-Coms you could have as many or as few as you wanted.

For some missions I would only take my...

I agree about Forza...
I disagree about getting used to it.

If I want to buy each section of a game separately I'll play free-to-play games, if I want the full thing I'll buy retail games that don't use free-to-play microtransactions.
