Decline in Xbox 360 Sales Dampens Good Microsoft Quarter

In its quarterly report to analysts for its third fiscal quarter of 2007, Microsoft executives repeatedly stated much lower than expected Xbox 360 sales for the quarter. After selling as much as 1.8 million consoles per quarter last summer, the company sold only 500,000 consoles in the previous quarter to retailers.

Revenue for the Entertainment Division in the fiscal third quarter was down a staggering 21....

I would think this would only be for Xbox 360 and PS3 games as they are the only 2 next gen systems for which the engine is designed for. Sega should not really need help with designing for the Wii since its not really any kind of a jump in tech like the 360 and PS3 are.

One thing for sure is any game they make using the engine should look good!

Actually VGCharts has the PS3 at 3.3 million sold. The 3.6 million sold is from the Bloomberg report on Sony's 4th quarter financial report.

The numbers won't stay like that and if you think the US market accounts for almost 50% of world sales a month I would say your a tad off.

I guess you can look at it that way but really 2 million units world wide as the buffer from shipped to sold, so that there is actual stock available to purchase, is not a huge number. That number should stay like that while the number of units sold will increase and the percentage decreases.

According to this article 3.6 million sold. http://www.bloomberg.com/ap...

About 5.5 million PlayStation 3 consoles were shipped by March 31, with 3.6 million of them actually sold, Oneda said.

Your right.

Sony Posts Major Drop in Profits is the original title, while Newsbot chose to go with Sony Posts Major Financial Year Losses.

EDIT: ok perhaps it originally was what Newsbot posted and the site changed it after as they now have changed the title to "PS3 Drives Big Drop in Sony Profits"

Nor am I bashing the 360. The past does not = the future. It is interesting how things can be interchanged though no? The only point this article brings up is that just because the press and people are saying bad things about a console does not mean its not going to do well. Just because MS launched first does not = automatic win like so many are quick to say. Just because the 360 is easier to program for does not = automatic win for the 360. That's all I am saying.

But once again, you fail to realize that the predecessor to the 360 was the extremely unsuccessful Xbox. People (and developers) weren't as keen about MS as they were about Sony. The PS2 was massively successful in comparison.

Dreamcast was released on November 27, 1998 in Japan; on September 9, 1999 in North America (the date 9/9/99 featured heavily in U.S. promotion); and on October 14, 1999 in Europe.

PS2 was first released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000 and in Europe on November 24, 2000.

So no one is quoting history out of context since the PS2 launched after Dreamcast and the PS3 launched after the Xbox 360. And the message being said about the P...

Ok you win, its nothing new he and Insomniac are doing what every other company does and its really redundant for him to explain it and then for me to expand on it since its so wide spread and such an established company standard. Sorry I even bothered to comment!

The article is specific to what Insomniac Games is doing. I was just stating that this does not just apply to Insomniac or even the video game industry it applies to any business.

The amazing thing to me is that most companies don't seem to grasp this simple concept or simply pay lip service to the idea but don't really do anything to make it a every day reality for people who work for them.

at the end of the day its about inspiring people to do their best and creating an environment where people feel valued for what they do. Its all about managing people and this goes for any business. Companies that do it well will be very successful and those that don't will wallow in medocrity or fail.

Only problem is people will just fill up the day before or the day after so it really does not have the financial impact you think it does. Gas is something everyone uses in our day and age and ultimately going one day without it is meaningless. The only way things are going to change is to find alternate energy sources and the higher price of gas actually makes alterantive energy more viable.

Also this has nothing to do with the article or the site, so while I think you did ...

Funny thing is most of the "news" on this site is of someone giving their opinion.

Game reviews and previews - opinion
Any news article on the state of the console wars - opinion
Why Ken retired - opinion
Developer interviews - opinion

So what is going to be the standard of what opinion is allowed and what is not?

Its all about image. If you read the interview with Peter Moore he would not even address the failure rate on the 360 instead turning the focus on how they have done such a wonderful job responding to the issue from a customer service point of view. The fact of the matter is the hardware should not be failing as bad as it has and it would be refreshing to see MS stand up take the heat saying we screwed up. This is why its so high and here is what we are going to do to fix it going forward....

Sure..here is why I bought a PS3 instead of a Xbox 360

Games

- its called exclusives. Sony owns more studios then MS and Nintendo combined. That means more exclusive for the PS3. Games I want to play. Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, MGS4, GT5, FFXIII, Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Distruction, etc.

Hardware

- Xbox 360 has hardware problems. The failure rate is much higher then the industry 3%. ...

See I did not buy my PS3 just for what it offers me today, which is a couple great games and the ability to watch Blu-ray movies, but for what it will offer in the years ahead.

I see Sony delivering on all fronts. Lets see.....

Update 2.0

PS3 Eye
Little Big Planet
Lair
Warhawk
Heavenly Sword
Ninga Gaiden Sigma
Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

PS3, if you look at the donor page is the #1 donor for Folding@Home.

http://fah-web.stanford.edu...

Only way to varify if Sly is actualy that person would be for him to produce the certificate from Folding@home.

Nice job on number one for our team Eldon3.!

which is good. I would rather a developer release a polished game then push out something less then it should have been simply to meet some arbitrary date.

EB Games had the release date as 9/1/2007 where IGN has it as November 2007 for U.S. and September 2007 for Europe.

I think the best thing to keep in mind is this part of the email.

NOTE: The product release date is the best estimate as to when the product will become available.
