The figure of 8 million sold is an estimate which is based on Microsoft revealing its Xbox hardware sales rose by 166% over the past three months. Whilst I respect analyst Daniel Ahmad's insights I think this one is likely an overestimate.

There has been growth in the last quarter likely fuelled by better availability of hardware but that is not enough data to extrapolate such high sales. As a point of reference it would mean that this is the closest Xbox has been to Pl...

That's a phenomenal deal, one year for the price of a discounted game, less than Avengers Endgame edition, £2 per month! Whilst I don't have that much time to play i will resubscribe because it's nice to dip into stuff and there will be at least one big game over the next year.

-What's interesting is WHY is Sony doing this, maybe it's trying to determine if price is the only factor to get many more people to subscribe or if it will need to change st...

A good succinct review and I really like the idea of a succinct game! Kena looks fun but... this is the second person to make a comparison to Dark Souls! I really don't like overly tough games, especially for something that looks cutesy, so I might just wait and see if it gets a bit cheaper over the Christmas sales.

@PhillyDillyDee.

The Witcher 3 next-gen update has been outsourced to and developed by an external studio, Saber Interactive. This is a good solution as it means the improvements to Cyberpunk 2077 will not be impacted or delayed by Witcher 3's update. As Saber Interactive is a separate studio, CD Projekt cannot move their staff to its own team.

@Lightning77 What do the Polish have to do with Avowed? The Developer Obsidian is a US team.

@LordoftheCritics people have downvoted you because they don’t want to agree with anything said about the ‘bad guy’ EA. But I’m old enough to remember life before the franchise and that’s absolutely right. When talking about football and the World Cup nobody used to say Fifa. EA turned FIFA into a household name.

@isarai. Perfect emoji! 😄

@Terry_B A random talks about using one service more than another and we're supposed to have a reaction, cry perhaps or celebrate?!! Talking as if he is leaving his wife for his girlfriend. Maybe I will write an article about how i've left Netflix for Now TV, or Epic Games Store for GoG. Don't mind me, I think I'm just getting too old for this crap!

@LoveSpuds. I think you say it well, Elden Ring is less mainstream but it will still take some sales. But then, Sony is releasing Gran Turismo 7 on the 4th March which is just two weeks after HFW on 18th Feb. So maybe Sony doesn't think that other games, including its own, will cannibalise sales. I'm not an exec, but I would try and keep my big games at least a month apart.

That date is bad for Horizon Forbidden West which releases a week before.
Destiny 2 the Witch Queen on the same day the 22nd.
Sifu is the 22nd!
And Saints Row is the 25th.
Now that's a crowded February!

Say what you want but if customers on average can only buy one game per month all those titles together lessons the chance that they will buy a publisher's specific game. I wonder if we will see any of the other publishers move ...

I'm looking forward to the gaming reveals. Gotham Knights could play like Marvel's Spider-Man. And for so long people have been clamouring for a Superman game and now in Kill the Justice League he will appear in one - but as the bad guy?! It's been a year since the teaser I hope DC shows a full trailer with gameplay.

The thing is if EA choose not renew the license then FIFA has flushed its previous income down the toilet as there will be no other publisher interested in it... unless a couple of years later Konami picks up the license for cheap and renames eFootball, FIFA!

@lodossrage You're right, it isn't a good argument! But that was the case made by Microsoft in the Epic vs Apple case. It's not going to charge any commission to app developers who sell through the Windows store, although game publishers will have to pay 12%.

So why has Microsoft shifted its stance? I believe it's because where it is the market leader in desktop OS it has almost zero market share in the mobile OS space* and that is very dangerous for it so i...

So the two biggest and most profitable businesses in the world are using legal measures to stop another company from disrupting their monopoly.

Microsoft has indirectly sided with Epic. It is allowing Epic and Amazon's stores directly through Windows app store. It has said that the reason the Xbox store charges commission to publishers is specifically because Xbox is a loss making business model, and it implied that a platform that is profitable, such as the Apple app store, shouldn't be charging 30% commission.

The game trials will be available for a select range of games and not the full PSN library, so this isn't a solution to customers wanting refunds.

@Zhipp. I was referring to the word 'creator' used in the article's headline which reduces Blackley's pivotal role in gaming history to a mere contributor - he was the catalyst. Ken Kuturagi is the father of the PlayStation and Seamus Blackley is the father of the Xbox.

@TheRealTedCruz I can't say if Insomniac was forced to work on Marvel's Spider-Man or if the studio had the option to decline the project. But I would think that as a development team there is something so alluring, so exciting, about being able to work on one of the biggest, best loved comic book franchises ever and facing the challenge of putting your own spin on it and making a great product that the public might love... or hate! The game turned out alright! It received much praise...
