You can't just make the claim that a studio is the 'gold standard for game development' without providing evidence to support such a claim. Is it judged on the quality of the recent output measured by metacritic scores, or is judged on the output frequency, or is judged by sales?
Recent titles are The Outer Worlds, Grounded, Pentiment and soon to be released Avowed. Are they grounds for calling Obsidian 'the gold standard of game development'?

Only indie game South of Midnight isn't, and MS have already said that's because smaller teams don't have the resources to develop multiplatform. EA needs to rehire the game director of Dragon Age: Inquisition. He did an outstanding job and I hope he can bring those same story beats to Mass Effect.
Horizon Zero Dawn sold brilliantly for Sony, but Shuhei Yoshida revealed what we all suspected , the second game didn’t sell so well. Sony has got it in its head that it could be its very own Star Wars franchise - but it’s misjudged the demand as the majority of people who’ve played the games don’t love them. Thank God it’s cancelled the MMO because I could see this being an Ubisoft Skull & Bones level disaster.
I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.
Cancelling games that they have predicted won’t work is actually a success. When Ubisoft revealed Skull & Bones and Warner Bros. revealed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League the public universally said they didn’t want the games and the publishers instead of listening pushed back their release dates to work on them some more.
The failure of this game is ultimately down to the EA executives because they allowed the game’s director to co-op the game and make it about their own personal agenda rather than a product made to entertain the masses who enjoyed the previous Dragon Age games.

It sounds like it’s last orders for the hardware. I’m so glad I had the foresight to sell my Xbox Series X before Christmas. £330 on eBay. Not that I wanted to but I don’t want one day the value to collapse. Mind you, that might be exactly the reason Xbox hasn’t made a formal statement.
I loved Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and so did many millions of other people. Ubisoft intentionally reduced the AC element so it was mostly a pirate game that had the broadest appeal.
Ubisoft should not have wasted time making the online Skull & Bones or this remake - it should’ve just made a new standalone single player pirate game that could become a franchise.
I watched the most recent Skyblivion vid and it looks wonderful, it’s a real passion project. But it won’t be coming to console and it will likely not release until the end of the year. It’s unfortunate for the team that these two versions will be releasing so close to each other. I just hope that Bethesda respect their own game and give it a worthy visual upgrade.

We know some of the games that will get the spotlight treatment, but what if at the very end the 'one more thing' revealed is Halo: Combat Evolved Remastered for ALL platforms. If Microsoft does this it will be a megaton and people on non MS consoles can get on board, potentially creating a massive new audience and reinvigorating the franchise for the next new game.
